Good to hear City scored 11 goals , a bit harsh on Kilkenny to have to play with 8 people .

Thats a non-event to be honest, cant really count that when they only had eight on the field.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

They were only intending on travelling with 12, it seems. Sod them if they can't get a full team together.

I think the same thing happened a couple of months ago where Limerick had no subs.

How can officials let this game go ahead with only 8 players ? shocking !

The Limerick full team turned up to the Carlisle the season before last with only 11 players and had to play a keeper up front.

I understand can be costly to run a team but same cost to run bus with 11 players as 15.

The rules state that once a team has 8 or more players a game can go ahead.

It's not. You have to set some sort of minimum that a game can continue/go ahead with. Eight is fair enough. Any less turns into a real farce, and any more means you run the risk of more games being abandoned. Teams being reduced to nine men is common enough. Can't call every one of those games off.

I think the rule states that more than 7 players need to finish the game. It would seem there is no rule how many players required to start the game...

No, fairly sure you need 7 (not 8, you're right) to start.

Once you have the minimum number to finish a game you can be allowed start a game. I have been involved in situations where the women's team I administer, started a game against 8. They wrote the names of three other players on the match card. The girls only arrived at kick off time, went to the changing room got into their footie gear and arrived on the field during the opening 10 minutes. The team had no subs, and they bloody well beat us 5-3! The game was on a Sunday afternoon, the three girls could not get the day off , so they took a long lunch, played the game and went back to work.

As Pinapple Stu said, under Law 3 the number of players it states that "A match may not start if either team consists of fewer than seven players."

Decision 1 of the International FA Board states "Subject to the overriding conditions of Law 3 (i.e. 7 players required to start a game), the minimum number of players in a team is left to the discretion of member associations. The Board is of the opinion, however, that a match should not continue if there are fewer than seven players in either team."

Therefore 7 players must be present to start (1 of whom must be a goalkeeper) and subject to there being no other rule in place by the EL, should a team be reduced to less than 7 the game should be abandoned.

Just to increase the suspicion that some teams are well out of their depth in the U-21 set up Limerick beat UL/Aisling 9-0 with the final whistle apparently blown long before the 90 mins elapsed.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

Dundalk beat Sligo 4-0 at the weekend. Ref blew the final whistle after 65 mins with Sligo also only fielding 8players...

I hope when the review process thingy takes place in October that it's being noted which senior clubs are incapable of fielding full teams and squads at U-21 level as youth development is supposed to be part of the criteria.
