We scored twice late on in the quarter-final last year to nearly bring it back from 3-0 down, and were then denied the most blatant penalty you've ever seen in injury time. We still managed to avoid running onto the pitch, throwing flares, making gestures to opposition fans and generally acting the scumbag.

Pitch invasions, as a rule, are ridiculous. There are however exceptions. Winning the league on the last day of the season, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 with last minute winner against big rivals and one or tow more.

The worst examples of idiotic over exuberance have been Bohs fans throwing till rolls on the pitch when a Pats goal was disallowed and Rovers fans jumping on the pitch in TOlka when they scored to halve Pats lead to 1-2. To borrow a phrase from our gypsy friends, Minnowism at its lowest.

Athlone should have won, but we didnt only get a replay we won

You looked like total gob****es. There's overexuberance and there's looking like scumbags. You managed to pull off the latter pretty well. Pitch invasions during a game are not on, no matter what the circumstances. Not only that but it's the manner in which you did it. People will not want to go to games if they think that's the norm.

Your attendance at that was between 10-20 fans.

10-20 fans doing what you did on the pitch would be enough to show up the league and ourselves as total ****s.

Jesus it was over exuberance at best. To go from 1-0 down with 5 minutes left to winning the game means a passionate repsonse from the supporters. Hardly scumbag behaviour. Reign it in will you?

Don't turn this into a matter of passion. What are you? Children? Can you not contain yourselves and refrain from entering the field of play for a few minutes?

Eh, no - they were scumbags. Pure and simple. THrowing flares onto the pitch? Or are you ignoring this part?

The number of fans for either club is irrelevant.

That's just your opinion and its wrong. Athlone had flares too or are you ignoring that part.

You should be more interested in why the pitch invasion was so easy. Because of, yet again, inadequate stewarding.

Nobody got hurt and talk of people being put off the league because of a harmless pitch invasion is pathetic. It has happened in other countries too.

As our manager rightly said it all boils to jealousy. Pathetic sniping.

I agree. Shows how low Rovers have sunk that they celebrate a win over Athlone so much.

No they didnt have T.V's at the match
What did it say "EL shock as Rovers fans in run onto the pitch in joy and
    happiness" disgraceful.

I wonder will Rovers be fined for the flares & smoke?

BTW i think the ground itself looked very poor. The spectator areas looked very dark & gloomy (why no lights?) & the closeups on the pitch was rough & high.

You'd swear the pitch invasion was like Hereford-Newcastle in 1972 the way it's being blown out of proportion.

Did Hereford get fined back then, I wonder? Actually no. They became English league members soon afterwards.

The EFA didn't care about it then, so why should the FAI care about it now? Mini-pitch invasions are common in the LOI when goals are scored. UCD fans wouldn't understand why, for obvious reasons.

Home club bears the brunt I think.

Ground was a damn sight better than most in the league. Where the camera was a good covered stand and where we are was a covered terrace. A big bar as well.

At half time they had a guy who was remarking the pitch. Except he was walking on the paint as he went along

Hopefuly the Athlone crowd will stick by the team when the new stadium is ready.

I can smell the bitterness and jealousy off this thread. Pathetic lads, simple as that -

Being lectured by a UCD fan. Give us a shout when you bring 700 to an away game, then you can talk.

A Cork fan going on about us celebrating beating Athlone. How's your Cup campaign going?

Bohs and Derry fans almost apoplectic about the behavoour of Rovers fans. Calm down chaps.

This MB has gone way downhill recently (admittedly not helped by some Hoops on here) but the level of bitterness about Rovers is astonishing. We have a massive, unruly, drunken away support. So poxy what?
