I'm pretty sure it's required under the law for any sports club which has a children's section since the dreadful child abuse that occured in swimming. (Even if not required by law it is still a very good idea.)
What is a Child Protection Officer?

My understanding is that any sports club with players under 18 has to have a trained child protection officer. I'm involved in one of the sports clubs in UCD and we have to have one in case a 17 year old joins.
It does exactly what it says on the tin!

Well our Child Protection Officer is also the head co-ordinator of our Youth Set up so he works closely with all the managers and is an ear for parents and children if they have any problems....he was also the nice big guard that protected Rory O'Handsoffourhospital the other day....god I gave him some slagging! Stann did u spot your county mate on the news the other nite??
As far as I remember it is one of the things that have to be complied with for licensing....I think I remember we had to put in his details on the licensing application.
Foot.ie's entire existence is predicated on the average idiot's inability to ignore other idiots
Any organisation be it Sports, Scouts, Religious etc have to a Child Protection Officer if they are dealing with Children.
