    Setanta Qualification

Sorry if this has been asked before.

    1. Do Drogs qualify as 2006 Setanta Cup winners, irrespective of their final league position in 2006?

    2. If Derry win the FAI cup, beating say Sligo in the final, do Sligo qualify for the Setanta or does the FAI Cup qualifying spot revert to the highest league position not already qualified?
    I'm what? I'm ants at a picnic?

On question 2, I think the place reverts to the league. As far as I know, the rule is the same for the FAI Cup as it is for the League Cup. I'm open to correction on that though.

Dungannon qualified as the cup winners had already qualified so id assume the fai position would be the same.

then again its the FAI so maybe they will just ask Ollie who he wants in it

Dungannon also finished 4th in the league though IIRC.

Sorry, I thought you meant that they'd lost in the cup final.

Its simple really - top 2 in the league + league & fai cup winners. You cannot qualify as runners up in either cup as place reverts to the league.

At the moment its top 3 in the league plus fai cup winners. If Derry city win then its 4th place in the league.

Without wanting to throw a spanner in the works I do recall a statement from Setanta after this years final saying that Drogs have automatically qualified for the 2007 competition as holders. Cant dig out any quotes on it but I am pretty certain that I heard it.
