QWho are Galway depending on?If yee were to win both yere games ye'd be level with us.Not ahead!

I love this "it's in our hands"-no it's not.To win the league ye have to win every game left and hope we don't.
UTD are now the favourites and rightly so.We've won 6 in a row including beating Rovers.

Conor, if we win our next three games ( Monday, Friday, Monday ) we are top. Doesn't matter how you do. You then have to beat the worst run club in the country, dalk, the following week. And don't forget the three points that the FAI will be forced to give us back.

that we've gone and won two-in-a-row
and it's not gonna be three
and it's not gonna be four
it's more likely to be 5-1.

Actaully you may not be top-depends on goal difference.I've just realised now Scully won't be on EL weekly tomorrow night!Would have loved to hear what he had to say.
We'll see how yee get on against Limerick tomorrow evening-a team yee haven't beaten yet!
Also one of yere games in hand is against Athlone. They'll be out for revenge after the cup.No guarantees Sam and i wouldn't bet on getting yere 3 points back.

I wouldn't be so sure about the 3 points, Conor. Though it might take 18 months to get them back.

Otherwise, it's a great run-in. I hate to say it, but it's probably going to go to the wire.

TV3's NL highlights may be on late, but not late enough for Scullinho to get from Tolka to Ballymount in roughly an hour or so. If we win our 3 games this week, we will be top, no matter what happens elsewhere. The ball is in our ground now, it's up to us to take advantage of it.

The advantage is always with the team that has the points in the bag - particularly at this stage in the season. Even if we do win our games in hand it will only put us back level, and it's still to early to talk about who'll have a better goal difference come 18th November.

With regard to getting back those three points: we already made the mistake once of being over-confident of retrieving them to the extent that we more or less looked on our points-tally with them included. We must continue to operate without this issue being a distraction. We're six points (nothing more, nothing less) behind with two games in hand. We have two very winnable games this week, and another two next week. I know it's a cliche, but we really must take each game as it comes, starting with Limerick now, and just concentrate on the task in hand.

Even if rovers do win tonight, if we beat athlone on thurs night, we`ll be 3 ahead of galway and still 6 ahead of rovers.

pressure then swings over to rovers/galway to both win at the w/e

Sure won't Galway have a game in hand?

Be hillarious if rovers lose the semi final and finish up in 3rd place, the smug wont be long gone from mr arogant no friends in football scully then[/QUOTE]

As ever the bitter comment .... it always amuses me as to how obsessed others are to see Rovers lose.... guess it comes down to the fact to quote the old cliche... " form is temporary but class is permanent.." and every supporter of every other club in their inner hearts wishes they had a glourious history like us.... cue the usual you're living on your past glories posts... plse don't bother... being a Hooper is the closest thing to having the blood of High Kings of Ireland flowing in your veins... we are the blessed ones and all others live in jealousy.

The ball is in Galway's court. End of. They are at home in the massive match against us next week as well as having a better goal difference. They have the 6 points on the board which is better than Rovers having 2 games in hand. Rovers have a better goal difference but they are starting to crack a wee bit and I can see them not taking the full 6 points from those 2 games in hand.

With rovers winning tonight as expected, and odds on to win v kildare on friday, the only games i can see them losing ground on is the last 3

03 Nov. Limerick v Shamrock Rovers
10 Nov. Shamrock Rovers v Finn Harps
18 Nov. Cobh Ramblers v Shamrock Rovers

Realistically if we dont win our next two games (athlone at home on thurs and galway away next week, I cant see us finishing first). Our goal difference is very poor compared to galway and rovers. Similalry galway themselves will be under massive pressure if they slip up away to finn harps this w.e.

But there`s definitely going to be a few surprises in store for all 3 of us before the seasons out, thats for certain.

One last point,. surely this will be the highest ever points total for whoever comes 2nd and 3rd this year ?

3 points down, 3 to go. That's the advantage of having games in hand. Win on Friday night, and our defeat in Galway will then be as relevant to the league table, as re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.

After Monday; Galway, Dundalk, and us could all have 59 points. And they say the other league, where the leaders currently have an advantage of 7 points, is the better one.

Dundalk 4 Athlone 0, pure demolition job especially in 2nd half. Philip Hughes got 2 more to make it 20 for the season.

The odd thing about the game was it was all athlone until hughes scored on 15 mins.

    Estimated attendance 1,500 - 1,600
