Well Shels wage bill is 20k a week supposedly. And we have 20 players in the first team squad. So that would would equate to, on average, 1,000 euro a week per player. Of course, some people reckon Alan Moore is on ridiculous wages (3k a week maybe?) so that decreases the average if you take him out of the picture. I'm not sure about whether U-21 lads get payed or not. Anyone know anything about that?

what complicates this is that footballers always think and talk in net terms 2k pw means 2k into the hand (very possibly literally) which can mean upwards of 3k to the club if they're doing it above board.

i would hazard a guess that the average is about 700pw/ 35k a year in the top half of the premier (or rather the top 5 plus Bohs, but not Sligo). There may be 6 players in the country on more than 2k pw/ 100k per year.....

    Net/Gross tax/no tax legal/illegal etc etc

In the Sunday Tribune interview Gergie of the White boots told the world he signed a 2 year €250,000 contract (Which I presume he's still getting paid...)

Well the figure bandied around by the club is a million a year. So if you do the maths....

    Of course its all speculation

It's more than that. Can't remember exactly, but in the order of 6.5k pw., including Gill and his assistant

if that was in response to my previous post, I think you misunderstood - I meant the average player- we have some very average ones - was on 700 a week or about 35k a year.

I know that at Athlone the U21's used to just get expenses, the expenses could vary though depending on how good they were, GAA style

Only saying what I was told, although it might have been before the U21's came into existance so whatever preceeded them. A friend was part of the youth team set up and then the next level (never got to the first team so what ever stage went between) and they got expenses I don't know the technical in's & out's but they got more expenses when they won than when they lost.

I remember the good old days of money in a brown envelope.

Looking back on it now I used to get decent money at the Rams considering it was 11 years ago.

Did you play alongside Roy Keane?
