Just took a couple of nasty challenges from Hutton, receiving treatment. Hope nothing serious, Shay has been over to check all is OK.

What's the story, has he damaged anything? I saw on BBC Long (Tchoyi 19) and almost immediately thought "Oh sh1t, he's injured isn't he"

A couple Crunching tackles from Hutton apparently... Doesn't day anything more on Sky app... Sounds like he was done.
I pity the fool!.... But suggest ways that he might improve himself.

Hutton had a petulant kick at him earlier after Long had barged him off the ball but a free-kick hadn't been given. That wasn't how he got injured though.

Hutton launched himself off the ground. Looked like got the ball first, it bounced off Long and out for a throw. Hutton's follow-through made Long do a near somersault. He tried to run it off for about 5 minutes but had to go off.

Some woeful decisions so far - Chris Herd sent off for a stamp, when he was just disentangling his leg from Olsson's body after Olsson had fallen when trying to get to a cross. Not even Olsson was looking for anything.

Hope he is going to be OK.
    BBC report here.
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15415631.stm

"If ever I've seen a challenge that merited a red card, it was Hutton on Long," added the Baggies boss. "It is a scan job but Long is lucky because he could have had two broken legs.

"Maybe the scan will show it wasn't as bad as all that. We don't think it is a cruciate knee ligament injury, which is good.

"But there are a lot of other ligaments in knees which can keep you out for a long time. It is a relatively serious injury."
It always seems that good news for Ireland is so rapidly followed by bad new. Hoping that is not the case this time!! Will have to wait and see.

If he is OK maybe we could switch to 4-2(wingers)-4.

Just seen the tackle, an absolute disgrace, basically assault.
However Long didn't look too bad walking away afterwards which is a good sign.

Just saw it. Barbaric. No duty of care shown by Hutton to his opponent whatsoever. Linkeker and Hansen were laughing about it on MoTD. This isn't the first time Hansen has defended barbarity. He defended a reckless 2 footed lunge by Essien last year. Essien won the ball, but if he hadn't his opponent was out for a year. Get Hansen off the screens. Dinosaur. That's another part of the EPL I loathe, the acceptance of lack of due care shown to players' safety. They tolerate all kinds of savagery. They think it's all about whether the ball is won or not. They have no broad understanding of the game whatsoever. They wouldn't know a skillful tackle from a version of assault in a hundred years.

I think we need to be clear on the difference between a lunge and a robust challenge, dunnes tackle in moscow was a robust challenge, very firm but put his hold body in. It wasn't a lunge in the air with two feet and fingers crossed to get the ball, it was well timed and precise.

Huttons was something out of Monday Night Raw off the ropes, except the chest was Longs lower body. He luckily got the ball first. Had he not Long more than likely would have been in serious trouble especially if either of his feet stuck in the turf.

No, not at all. Did you see Essien's tackle last year? Did you see MoTD tonight ? The studio reaction was a disgrace. I stand by every remark that you have highlighted in bold. My own football career ended with a dislocated ankle and badly torn ligaments from a fecking stupid and unnecessary late tackle. So late I had already seen my clearance from my own six yard line go into touch when the contact was made with my standing foot.

Interesting that you decided not to highlight the words "duty of care". That's what the courts use to decide whether injury on a sports field is worthy of assualt claims or not. Tell me how much duty of care Hutton showed? Ask any pro in any sport, soccer or rugby or whatever. Strong, robust tackles are fine, even if not successful. Tackles that show no duty of care are not. Hutton's was in that category and don't tell me otherwise.

Awful awful tackle, both feet off the ground and flying in at pace, how Dowd didn't give it was a foul is beyond me but he's beyond imcompetent as a ref so shouldn't really be surprised.....

Twas a straight red every time, though in fairness to the MOTD guys it appeared they agreed as much even if they were a bit flippant about it. Long didn't look too uncomfortable coming off so fingers crossed.

Dreadful tackle. Shame he had to come off cos he was gunning to get one back over on Hutton and I would have liked to see that

Yes I did see it. Hansen said 20 years ago that tackle would probably get you a new contract and he's probably not far wrong TBH. Lawrenson then said he should have been sent off. I think it was probably a red, but not quite as bad as everyone made out really.

Sorry to hear about your own injury.
