Hmmm at this stage, Long could be playing in the Premiership without a transfer. Strikers depend on form more than most positions, Long should be head and shoulders infront of Keane at this point.

Robbie's issue has been about lack of appearances more than a loss of form. Redknapp thought he had better strikers so Robbie started a lot less games for Spurs but if you look at his senior club appearances since the start of 2009/10 he has scored 26 goals in 42 starts. Clearly that includes a shedload for Celtic as well but the only game where I really thought he was "off-form" was Slovakia away when he missed the penalty and didn't look sharp. He's scored 6 goals in 14 international starts in the same period.

Robbie is lacking games and on that basis Long is clearly in consideration but when he's back fit and playing regularly, Robbie is still clearly first-choice alongside Doyler for me.

Scores again today. Incredible. BBC reporter calls Long the new Alan Shearer. Just got his second from the peno spot. "Shane Long running amok".

WOW!! His tally for the season in the Championship is 20 goals, second top of the scorer table.
20 in 36 appearances, I calculate (and thus that could well be wrong )

Probably with a name like that, however he has 3 England U21 caps.

I am one who has questioned Long's ability in the past. However, having watched him this year he is all class- strong, skilful, brave and confident. Finally, another genuine option other than Keane and Doyle emerges. In regards to McCarthy, I think he trained with the England U21s rather than having played for them. I am sure someone will clarify this!

Maybe with Reading, they are currently the form team in the play-off positions.

I think this is would be the best option for the lad. Another year with Reading, preferably in the premiership would be perfect. This is really his first breakthrough season, you would like him to continue in the same manner next year and most likely to do that where he currently is imo.

Give Harte another go in a friendly. He's younger than Killer, plenty of experience and can hit a mean free kick!

Which Iceland won. There was a bloke called Seamus Geysirsson in their line up.

Looking at Sunderland. They're going to need a new striker in the summer, aren't they? Two if they can't sign Welbeck.

Hard to better an appearance at the upcoming euro u21 finals.

That lad McCarthy (mentioned earlier) was left floundering like a beached fish a couple of times, we are not missing much there.
He was subbed and his replacement looked the real deal.
Probably means McCarthy has secured his England place in goals and future prospects with Arsenal.
