    Common sense prevails - G&DL merge with GU

    Eoin Hand, Manager of Football Support Services at the FAI welcomes the recent announcement of an amalgamation between the Galway & District League and Galway United. This move will see the District League take a 30% stake in Galway United and three seats on the Board of Directors at the Club while both parties will join together to take Youth Development in the County to a higher level, building on the excellent work already achieved in this area by the District League.

    There is no change to the status of Terryland Park, it remains in control of
    a group of trustees.

    so are united still paying rent for terryland and any idea how much it is?

    Galway United pay the G&DL a monthly amount to cover the considerable
    expenses of running the facility (eg pitch maintenance, ESB, etc).

    its great news for the club because now we can actually get a few decent young fellas from around galway county, instead of just kids from mervue and salthill.

    and Michael Kennedy was tohe first to make the step. Lets hope there is more like him ! Next I would say would be the young fella from Salthill "Keane O'Brien"(sp?)

    yeah kian's a good player supposedly, well he must be if he has played with the irish team but there is a lot of other fairly decent players with the G&DL team. it is obviously our best source for young players.

    I wonder will Skee want the kids leaving salthill though he seems to be tryin to send lots of them to england
