    Kildare County v GUFC

    from www.galwayunitedfc.ie

Teamnews:: Kildare County v Galway United
    Friday, 08 September 2006

Galway travel to Newbridge on Saturday evening without the services of three players. Out through suspension is Philip Reilly as a result of the red card he received last Sunday. Also ruled out is David Cooke (back) and Ronan Frawley (thigh strain). Tony Cousins is hopeful that both will return soon.

"David is out with a back problem but I would hope to be able to include him in the squad for the trip to Cobh on Tuesday. Ronan has a thigh strain and was forced to miss out last weekend against his old club. We may see him return for our home game against Kilkenny on Saturday week. John Russell is fit again and will be added to our 18 man squad for the Kildare game so that is a bit of a bonus," said manager Tony Cousins.

Not a performance that suggested we'll be winning in Cobh but a win is a win. We seem to have the same habit of sitting back on leads, which might well have cost us again last night. We conceded about five needless free-kicks in dangerous situations in the last ten minutes or so. Didn't create much at all ourselves, Alan Murphy missed I suppose.

    Kildare County 1-2 Galway United
Galway came from a goal down to defeat injury hit Kildare County at Station Road.

The home side had started the brighter and took the lead inside the first 13 minutes when in form striker Phillip Gorman reacted quickest to a Paddy Mahon knockdown to slot home. 17 year old Mahon was making his debut in an injury ravaged County side.

However Kildare’s lead was cancelled out almost immediately when a Derek O’Brien cross deceived the Kildare defence and snuck in at the far post. United then took the lead on 49 minutes when an O’Brien flick was put away by Barry Moran.

Despite the best efforts of John Reilly, Barry Slattery and Trevor Bowers, the Westerners held on for the win which keeps the outsiders in contention for the title race.

Kildare County: B Kennedy, P Mahon, B Slattery, A McDermott, P Byrne, S Cooling, S McCrossan, I Maher, J Reilly, P Gorman, G Christie. Subs: M Gibson for Christie; T Bowers for Mahon; T Morgan for McCrossan.

    Galway United: A Gough, A Keane, M O’Donnell, W Charles, B Clery, F Carter, R Createro, C Foley, B Moran, D O’Dowd, D O’Brien. Subs: M Harty for Foley; A Murphy for Moran.

Neither Barry nor David O'D really threatened. Barry doesn't give me the impression that his confidence is especially high.

seems to be the general consensus at the moment - wonder why barry is so low - he was well up for it earlier in the season ???

At least O'Dowd, while he isn't a natural goalscorer, has an extremely high workrate. The same can't be said for Barry.

Is Gethins injured ? He should be starting.

gethins and murphy were both on the bench in station road which it's safe to say was hardly cousin's best decision as manager.
From an early stage it was easy to that barry and dave were never gonna create anything and it took two fortunate goals to beat kildare. Frans finish was good but we got a bit of luck on the way. Dereks was just a complete fluke and we were lucky Dave didnt get a touch as it probably wouldnt have went in.
Although dave doesnt look like he'll score many goals he will run and run and run, so if cousins isn't going to play gethins then i think dave is the partner for murphs but in my opinion it should be murphs and gethins week-in and week-out.
Conor makes great runs dragging defenders after which creates lots of gaps for other strikers and midfielders to exploit and he can obvioulsy score goals if anyone remembers the cork game
Homer: I'm gonna make sure these deliveries are made on time.
Bart: Let me come with you
    Homer: Dont you have school!
    Bart: Dont you have work!
    Homer: Ah Touche!
