I thought that was his job for the past few years anyway?
The FAI has appointed Gerry McDermott as Communications Manager.
Mr McDermott joins the Association from the Irish Independent where he was soccer correspondent. Prior to joining Independent Newspapers in 1998, he was Deputy Sports Editor at The Star and during his 25 year career in journalism he also worked for the Donegal Democrat, LMFM Radio, Evening Press and RTE.
He is a graduate of the School of Business Studies at Dundalk Institute of Technology and holds a Diploma in Public Relations from the Public Relations Institute of Ireland. He served as a board member of the PRII for four years from 1998.
Mr. McDermott's responsibilities will include Public Relations, Internal Communications and the development of the Association's website, www.fai.ie. He will report to the FAI's Director of Strategic, Stadium and Media Affairs, Declan Conroy, and takes up his new post on Monday, September 18.

Wonder will we see articles about the 'famous boo boys' on the FAI website now?![]()
Perfect appointment.
He has the core FAI competency of trying to demonstrate his knowledge of the domestic game and failing miserably.
Does the job come with a free Man U season ticket?

Who's going to be promoted to the vacant position of 'FAI stooge in the Papers'?
Been looking for that infamous piece of his where his mate is never going to darken the door of a national league club ever again, because of the use of language without the everyday use of which the Indo would cease to function.
But I can't find the link. Any clues?
This is the perfect appointment..... just in case anybody thought there was any chance of anything changing or being done better when the FAI take over. Forget that silliness. :-(
He has worked for The Star, nuff said!![]()
Have Boot Disk, will travel
Good stuff, thats us promoted now !

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
Who'd have thought this appointment would've come from the Indo group? Shocking....
