reid is obviously struggling with his fitness. came off after 30 mins on sat presumably injured and has only featured in two other games one of which was as a sub. also, he was desperate and grossly overweight against chile

It was probably a bigger error on Staunton's behalf not to at least explain Reid's absence. I find it hard to believe the press didn't quiz him on it either.

    Did I miss something?

I see Gerry McDermott from the Indo is the FAI's new Press Officer. Maybe this'll help improve communication.

what does this tell you bout the impartiality of the indo during the previous managers reign???? delaney wants kerr out - independent slates him - independent sports writer gets job from delaney.
am not saying its the only reason kerr lost his job. but it should open peoples eyes as to the reality of how these people operate.

last pic I saw of Andy Reid - at his new club he looked like he always does - extremely overweight. Reid failed at Spurs, its not the sort of pedigree that would help us do any better in Germany is it?

Reid failed as a winger at Spurs. He impressed me with his passing and off the ball work last season when he was a regular in the team (up until about October). He's a central midfielder imo.

You can't be serious? If I remember correctly, last year the Independant were told that a press conference had been cancelled. The press conference actually went ahead as usual and I guessed at the time that it was purposely done because of the vendetta the Indo seemed to have against Kerr. McDermott was really annoyed about this.

I remember around the same time the Irish Times all but stated that the FAI were behind some of what was being said in the media. I can't really remember the details exactly.

Very strange decision if McDermott is the new press officer.

Yeah its a very suspicious appointment. Dont expect any criticism of the the FAI in the indo anytime soon....
Andy Reid looked pretty poor for charlton on sat before he came off. altho I like him and think he offers a bit more than Kevin Kilbane,John O Shea or Lee " charm offensive" Carsley.

Reid needs a lot of fitness work, he hardly figured in Spurs pre-season and was shipped out just before the season started from the litle I've seen of Charlton so far he needs to lose weight and get himself in shape big time.
Talent-wise he has the edge over all our other midfielders with the exception of Duff & possibly McGeady. Attitude & application is where the problem lies

to be honest his passing was way off....thats what I was gettin at....as for his weight I think he just needs to play for a team that wears all black or stripes....

Very good article. Hopefully someone gave a copy of it to Staunton.
