sarcasm aside - do you really believe that changing the manager after only one competitive match is the best way forward?

Stan was a stupid choice. The fact that he's talking about a "four year plan" is insulting. You're not up to scratch Steve. Even if we scrape a result against the Czech Rep, the appointment of Staunton set us back years. The German match was the first time in my memory that I KNEW, the team KNEW, the fans KNEW, the opposition KNEW, the "manager" KNEW" we were going to lose.

Agree with Emmett , the least any international manager deserves is 1 full campaign before being judged. Like him or not , and I am'nt sure i even do, His competitive record at the moment is losing away to the 3rd best team in the world via a fluky goal.

He wasn't my choice as manager and I've severe doubts about the future but surely any international manager deserves at least 1 qualifying campaign to proove himself.

it would look ridiculous to sack him now, and it might do damage to the players morale. we're in a lose-lose situation

it's not his fault he's manager though. if the FAI asked me to be ireland manager, i'd do it, even though i have no experience and don't feel ready. it's too good an opportunity to turn down. it would be the FAI's fault for asking me though

I dont see how people see sacking the manager after one game as ridiculous yet see keeping a manager on for a whole campaign eventhough they feel he patently isnt up to the job as being common sense. He shouldnt have been given the job in the first place. The quicker he is replaced or the fai do a middlesboro and bring in a proper manager to hold his hand the better. And Delaney should resign. He oversaw a really crap appointment which was based on what exactly? He seems more interested in controlling the bad PR than sorting out this mess. And yes make no mistake about it Ireland have been a feckin mess for the last 3 games.

Can't vote on that, he was never qualified for the job. He should be let stay now, Delaney should go.

It's not Stan's fault he got the job and he shouldn't be made the scapegoat for Dullaney. Best scenario, Delaney goes and the new man, gets someone in alongside Stan who isn't going to pop his clogs in a week, we qualify and the Gaffer is thrrrileed because it brrrillllliant and he's still the Gaaffer.

I'd agree with everything here, except that he hasn't actually done enough to warrant being sacked yet. If he proves that he isn't up to it before the qualifying campaign is over he should be sacked. If we finish 4th or lower Stan has to go.

I see Stan is getting his excuses in early.

"We are developing a team for the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign and I want players like Paul battling to be part of that. While we want to win every game and will be trying hard to qualify for Euro 2008, the main priority is building a squad capable of mounting a serious challenge in two years time."

The man is clearLy out of his depth.1 point from the next 2 games will make his position untenable and he should be gone before Christmas. If there was any justice that clown Delaney should be booted out before him as this was his "world class" appointment.

What Condescending attitude did Bobby Robson hold when getting the job with the FAI.

None that I have noticed. Quite the opposite in fact.
