Cherry Orchard 1-5 Avondale United
Dale showed their class today and dominated a good Orchard side.
2 peachy free kicks from John Cotter sealed a comfortable win.
Dale must now partake in their annual trip up North as Kildrum beat Corinthians 2-0.

Avondale look to be a fine side - 5-1 yesterday against Cherry Orchard is some result!!

Kildrum showed their worth yesterday with a 2-0 win over Corinthians - margin of victory really should have been more to be honest

Sets up a cracking game in the semi-final on April 1st.

Talk coming out of the capital last weekend is that the final won't be in Dubland. With a Dub team and a non Dub team guaranteed for the final I guess it'll either be halfway to Cork or halfway to Donegal.

Bangor Celtic 2-0 Tolka Rovers in the other semi.
So its Avondale vs Bangor in the final.
No news on a venue yet, the only down side is that after todays sending off Spratty will now miss the final.

Kildrum Tigers quest for glory in the FAI Intermediate Cup is over after the St Johnston based side went down to a disappointing one-nil defeat against ten-man Avondale United yesterday afternoon.
A 38th minute strike from Derek McCarthy was all that separated the sides at the conclusion leaving the big home support at Station Road departing a down hearted bunch.
Their side, however, simply didn�t do themselves justice yesterday afternoon with Avondale playing comfortably throughout, even after the 26th minute dismissal of David Spratt for lashing out at Dermot Kelly.
The loss of Ronan Coyle before half time through an injury sustained following a bad challenge by Avondale midfielder John Cotter didn�t help Kildrum�s cause as the absence of the striker was certainly evident with the home side lacking any real potency in attack thereafter.
Coyle had Kildrum�s best effort of the game cleared off the line on the quarter-hour mark. Latching onto a neat through ball from Keith Hegarty, Coyle lifted the deftest of efforts over the Avondale �keeper but, just as the Station Road crowd was about to celebrate, Noel Hartigan got back to hook his effort off the goal-line.
The Tigers entered the clash without the services of Garrett Callaghan who had netted the clinching second goal in their 2-0 win in the last round against College Corinthians. The former Finn Harps man was ruled out due to a troublesome ankle injury.
His place on the right flank was taken by Keith Hegarty with David Craig starting wide left.
After Coyle�s chance and after a couple of neat early touches from last season�s top scorer, the Cork side sensed danger was ahead, but John Cotter put an end to his participation with a high challenge that saw the ex Cork City man booked.
Avondale, too, had an early chance with David Spratt�s shot well held by John Roulstone after he pounced on a poor clearance from Paul Callaghan.
Spratt�s evening was to be a short one however, as he was red carded by referee Stephen Toner on 26minutes when the match official spotted his hit on Kildrum�s Dermot Kelly.
However, the dismissal seemed to inspire the Cork representatives and just 12minutes later they got their noses in front with a goal that the Kildrum defence won�t want to see in a hurry.
Paul Callaghan�s weak headed clearance fell to the right boot of Derek McCarthy and he lobbed the back peddling John Roulstone to give the Intermediate Cup holders the lead.
On the hour mark, a corner kick from Eoghan Lougheed clipped the crossbar and Dermot Kelly did well to clear the danger while McCarthy was denied from grabbing his second when Roulstone saved at his near post.
Kildrum sent on Brian Coll with 20minutes remaining and the left flanker drew a superb save from Kieran Barry Buckley within minutes of his introduction when he forced the Avondale �keeper into tipping his left-footed effort over the crossbar.
Kildrum through big Paul Lynch into the attack late on as the home side reverted to a three-man defence, but it just wasn�t to be for Raymond McDaid�s men with Tommy McDonald denied by Barry Buckley from drawing Kildrum level.
So, for the third year in succession Avondale have triumphed in Donegal and they now progress to the final where they will be hoping to defend the trophy they won last season.
For Kildrum, there was huge disappointment as they make their exit from the competition. Their cup exploits will continue however as they await the draw for the first round of the FAI Ford Senior Cup which takes place on Wednesday night next in Dublin.

He was injured yesterday.

Razor - was just going with the match card so that's where that came from. Have to say Avondale were a great bunch of lads, stopped for a couple of pints after the match and not a bother with them. There was a good crowd up from Cork as well.

Very disappointing from our point of view. We really didn't do ourselves justice at all. Avondale coped very well with the sending off and looked comfortable in teh second half - definitely deserved teh win and I've no complaints other than we should have given it a better go.

Fair play Avondale and good luck in the final.

To Harps Kid, shame you did'nt make it, as a distant observer of Irish soccer at this level always prefer to see non-major city clubs do well. Well at least you qualify for FAI Cup. Wish you well for Rnd 1, and a ultimate draw in Rnd 2, would it be the short drive through Carrigans to Lone Moor Road, or via Letterkenny to Ballybofey(think the badge may give it away)-well done.
2 questions if anyone can help. 1. Is it lack of Connaught Senior League that prevents Connaught clubs entering Intermdte Cup coz some of the grounds I have seen on my travels through Ireland thought they would qualify as Intermediate level ? 2. RE ULSTER SENIOR LEAGUE- Does anyone have details of Champions, Runners UP, since league's incepton in 86/87 or 87/88. Know Fanad have won 11 times (including 9 in a row). Believe Buncranna Hearts won it in 91/92 and Letterkenny Rvrs 04/05. Assume (but dangrous to do) Fanad's 9 in a row was 92/93-00/01. Believe they may have been inaugral champions (86/87 or 87/88) thus leaving 1 other title to pin down along with blank seasons. If correct Derry City rsrvs runn/up 95/96. Did it involve Cavan/Monaghan clubs when first began ? Appreciate any help

Finn Harps Reserves won it in 1998/99 and indeed won the league with a 100% record. Kildrum Tigers collected the title in 2003/04 and Quigley's Point Swifts won it in 2002/03.

As regards the senior cup - it would be the trip through Carrigans, up the Lone Moor Road I suspect. Brandywell would be closer to us, so I imagine would be the favoured option.

thanks for your reply. Sorry Cant put it together. Have Fanad done 9 in a row or not. If they have, does'nt fit if Buncranna won in 91/92 & Harps 2nds 98/99.Who won 05/06 and hows it looking for 06/07, all over? or nail bite finish?
When will Fai Cup be made, know Rnd 1 non-league clubs only, sure if you got candystripers could always arrive in style-Hire that boat on the Foyle and Cruise in ! Appreciate if you could clarify Ulster Legue for us and Fingers X draw goes your way.

Fanad United won it in 2005/06 after a play-off. Looks like Fanad for this year again - Letterkenny, Kildrum and Cockhill Celtic still in contention.

Harps definitely won it in 99 - not sure about Buncrana though, I'll get it checked mind....

Happy enough with the draw too - home to Malahide
