No I presume he felt that he was entitled to that contract as the club was making so much money and he was a vital component in the winning of trophies at the club. What he has said all along is that a player is entitled to ask for what he feels he is worth but that once he signs his contract he should be then happy with what he has signed.

Well that contradicts what he has said about players being interviewed for Sunderland.....ah, who cares. I am looking forward to the game tonight

1-1 draw I predict and a brief handshake and that's it. However, I bet it won't be long before Mick's booming voice gets under Keane's skin. Must have the loudest voice of any manager in the leagues - can be heard miles away

    From the Times.

However, Keane's willingness to articulate his feelings without holding back remains unaffected.

His attempts to add new blood to his squad ahead of today's deadline for loan deals - Sheffield United's Paul Ifill and Manchester United youngster Jonny Evans are thought to have been among his targets - seem to have reached a disappointing impasse, prompting an icy blast.

Keane said: "A lot of footballers these days, the first question they ask is: 'What kind of money am I going to be getting?' I find that amazing. That is my point, putting money in front of playing games, winning trophies.

"I would not begrudge any player a few bob. It is a short career and you have got to make it while you can. But don't get sidetracked by putting money before playing games."

That was Shearer. At the time a colleague of mine who's a season ticket holder there told me that Kluivert was on £80k p/w and Shearer did have such a contract which meant he had to have 2k p/w above the next highest earner.

I'd say this is going to be a very good game. Hopefully Sunderland will win.

    Thank you. Thank you.

Disappointed with Millar, Elliott (despite his deflected goal) and Connolly. Best Irishman on the pitch Breen

God - does Mick have a loud voice shouting orders!!
