Speakin' of shoes, I seen a chap wearing those Adidas Boston Celtics shoes with the shamrocks on them in Stuttgart. They looked deadly so they did.

Whatever about wearing Celtic jerseys, which are at least green and white, what gets me are the people who wear blue Dublin GAA jerseys or other county jerseys. I certainly, along with Fred Perry tops, think they have no place in the stadium at an away soccer international.
I've just noticed this post by yourself Owlsfan.
What do you mean by stating that I "rely on everyone else to provide the colour". My top was GREEN that is a f#cking colour isn't it. In fact it's more green than a Celtic shirt.

I'm hoping though, that all of the above post was typed with your tongue firmly in your cheek.
If not, you have serious problems.

It is a football forum which is why wearing a shirt of a British team to games played by the Irish national team makes no sense.

It's the opposite of wearing the same band names t-shirt to the band you are going to see. Don't be "that guy".

In fairness Fergies son, the debate has gone well beyond wearing shirts of a British team when following Ireland.
Someone has just been stating that you can't wear a Dubs shirt, or even a Fred Perry top, when watching Ireland

    I'm embarrassed for him.

I guess you can wear whatever you want. I didn't see many Bundesliga jerseys at the Germany match or jerseys from former German areas. I just think it would be nice to have some uniformity when supporting the Irish team. A green jersey or an Irish jersey I think makes the most sense. A Celtic jersey just confuses the issue imho.

im starting to think that a lot of people on here soend a bit too much time thinking about these things!!

wear green - doesnt have to be a jersey - if no green wear a scarf or a hat - just bring some colour!

but all this sh1te of fan etiquette and what songs to sing or not to sing yada yada - wheres the spontaneity gone!! After being at the game last weekend I hope we dont have to resort to the german style of supporting the team!

p.s i saw loads of stuttgart jerseys at the game

I just want to run something by the fashion police, if we were to play in white, would this be ok as an outfit ??

    outfit one

I want to be a true fan but think it's vital to check that this outfit would be ok.

Yes, thank you. Will we be wearing white or green in the Czech Republic, who wear red? Or in San Marino, who wear blue? Or in Wales, who wear red? Etc, etc...

    Everything was superbly organized.
You must have been sitting in the Irish section, as every single person I spoke to after the game - including loads of randoms I was squashed next to on the metro - thought the Irish fans overall were very disappointing. Think I heard one chant all game from the Irish section - even in the quieter bits.

Big/easy away games like this get the holiday-loving fans who are out as much for the craic and the beer as the football. Most of them probably have limited experience of live football, and don't seem to know how to create an atmosphere.

I get increasingly disappointed/disenchanted over time with the support for Ireland.

Yea quite probably would have. At least there was a genuine atmosphere in those days and Landsdowne really was an intimidating place to come to. Oh and i seem to recall lots of Celtic jerseys as well.

Any green or white is fine I just don't think a Celtic jersey makes any sense.

Didn't see many Stuttgart jerseys at all and I was in a German section.

Why not green? That post makes no sense.

Don't really care what people wear to games. Though I saw one of the German papers commenting on the wall of green at the ground - likened it to the Dutch fans and their usual wall of orange. Think a wall of green is better than a wall of white.

Don't know where you're getting that from!! Nobody I've heard has echoed that, either who was there, who was in Ireland watching on telly or who reporting in the papers.

Ive been home and far away with the team, but for once at least, last week the fans were a credit to the country and youve obviously got some agenda if you say otherwise.

Being mentioned by the German media in this context, with reference by comparison with the Dutch WALL OF ORANGE, surely vindicates earlier posts, that on match day green is the only colour.

i would much rather see all the supporters in green even at away games, but it is never going to happen, esp when you see people in Cork and Dublin jerseys!!
