Whatever about wearing Celtic jerseys, which are at least green and white, what gets me are the people who wear blue Dublin GAA jerseys or other county jerseys. I certainly, along with Fred Perry tops, think they have no place in the stadium at an away soccer international.

This thread is a fcuking joke, Im pleased to say that never once in my time following Ireland with some of the most dedicated fans you could meet has any of them had the inclination to comment on what I was wearing to the game.
I've worn Ireland shirts, GAA shirts, Celtic shirts, civvies all to Ireland matches, Im always the same type of fan? This thread has turned in to a playground like conversation and whats worse I can't believe Im fcuking contributing to it!!!!!!

Wear what you like before the game IMO. It would be nice if everyone could wear the jersey to the game just for the added colour but if not I'm not too bothered.

Very true, read any copy of YBIG and you are sure to find a rant against ‘suits’ and how ‘real’ fans get the s**tty end of the stick. Every fans seems to think that what they do is right and they are the ‘real’ fans and others are wrong.
It’s like to shirt debate on this thread. If you do not have an Ireland shirt (green or white) some sort of other green shirt will do, be it Fred Perry polo shirt, a Celtic shirt or a Phanathinokas shirt (but remember that Celtic are a British club and Panathinakos have nothing to do with Ireland).
On the atmosphere generation topic, Fran Rooney tried this in Lansdowne for a few games in 2003 or 2004.
Handed out green cards, but only to those visible to the TV cameras, with ‘chants’ on the back (‘Ireland ‘tll I die’ being one of them) and brought a PA announcer from Celtic over to rev us all up in a Scots accent.
Also tried to get a singing section in the terraces made up of LOI fans with huge big LOI club flags.
It did not really work and only lasted a few games, probably cos there were too many ‘suites’ there, opps there I go again.
I thought the atmosphere is the ground at Stuttgart was good, even though it was choreographed. Thought the flags were a good touch.

I think the fact that games are generally played on a freezing nite in sept/oct/nov kinda puts me off wearing a t shirt with "eircom" plastered accross the front. as well as that the jersey changes so often and the designs are always awful. I always thought the korean " be the reds" t shirts were a great idea. altho we are too obsessed with labels in this country to ever do that. or them orange jump suits the dutch wear would be cool as well. cept maybe in green....anyways the atmos in lansdowne is always brutal.nuthin to do with suits. more to do with the fare on offer.
The quality of the shirts are so bad that I have given up buying them, I normally wear my James Joyce T-Shirt or a Rugby Shirt if it's a bit nippy.
I have a genuine green wool bobble hat (green and white bob on top), my dear sainted mother knitted for me. Would that be passable these days as a retro fashion statement or is it strictly logoed polyester?

Shirts - bottom line
Wear whatever colour the team are playing in at the game be it green or white.
We were playing in green so it would have been more appropriate to have worn a green top/shirt/t shirt/vest/bra etc so we could stand out from the german support as unless the players have superpowers thay would have great difficulty picking out a white irish shirt from the white German one.
If we were playing in white then white would have been more appropriate.
End of discussion.

It's actually dark blue, but it's a little shiny 'cos it's old and has been worn a lot. I wear it when I'm on my tractor spreading muck.
Anyway, I thought this was a football forum.
I didn't really join to read about people's match day fashion tastes.
It's been quite revealing though.
