The Russian league restarts after the Winter break. Bilyaletdinov starting instead of McGeady.

Cheeky assist from McGeady to give Spartak a draw against Rubin Kazan in their important championship game. But yea, McGeady can't cross, and even if he could, he would never do it against a team of Champions League quality. No siree.

Any time I've seen McGeady for Spartak his crossing's been terrific, particularly when he's inside the box. It definitely helps that the Spartak forwards make better runs for him. The instinct for Premier League players is to run to the back post which makes it very difficult for McGeady, so you end up with him chipping the ball into Cech's arms several times on Wednesday.

I think that's 20 assists for McGeady at Spartak. It was very similar to his 'chipper' for Andrews to nod home in Estonia.
The same cross that the RTE panellists said was poor and left all the work for Andrews to score.

In fairness they said the cross was okay but Andrews still had a lot of work to do, which he had. They certainly didn't say it was a poor cross.

I'd call it damning with feint praise.
"It was an alright cross not a great cross, but the header was top top class, the ball was slow, etc..... as Eamon would say, (the cross) was okay"

"would you agree John it wasn't a great cross" "yeah it wasn't a great cross .... Andrews had to do most of the work" "McGeady's cross was okay".

Personally i would have said it was the perfect cross given the circumstances.

One can sense the pain such understated admissions caused to those uttering them.

You'll note that Brady generally qualifies his praise in order to be agreeable to the other 2. He appears to be intimidated by them.
In general Brady argues, only when the anger and frustration gets the better of him. And when that point has been passed he lets it out but he gets emotionally flustered, so it doesn't sound coherent.
I wish he wouldn't be so agreeable and be the one looking for the common ground.

I'd look at it differently. You seem to think that they were reluctant to praise McGeady, whereas I think they just wanted to emphasise how much Andrews still had to do. McGeady just lofted it into a good area, but it wasn't one of those crosses that just needed to be directed without generating any force.

I agree with you on Brady though, he will only stand his ground when he feels very passionately about something, usually Arsenal. He is in a semi-difficult position when discussing the current set up with Ireland in fairness.

    Ha! ha!
It's not really true, I twisted it around a bit for comic effect.

I can't remember exactly what was said but I managed to find it on the web, there is a video of the interview and the transcript below

    http://rt.com/sport/football/miss-old-firm-mcgeady-now/

This is the relevant part of the transcript but it is worth watching the video as well at about
    3.07

RT: And just finally Aiden, on a lighter note – Is there anything you miss about Scotland and home, you know, the deep-fried Mars Bars or Irn-Bru?

AM: Deep-fried Mars Bars? What a stereotype that is! I’ve never actually had a deep-friend Mars Bar. Of course there’s home comforts you miss – I think the main thing that you miss is being able just to nip around and see your parents and friends. But that's obviously part of life. I do miss the odd fish and chips and stuff like that as well. You don't get much of that over here. And the Russian cuisine isn't quite for me.

It certainly gets the ball into the danger area and gives the strikers a chance, which is infinity preferably to a pacey whipping in cross
over everyone's heads and out of play, ie no end product.

McGeady looked up and picked out Andrews.
And compare the damning praise they gave to McGeady with the consensus of profuse praise they dished out to Robbie for his lob towards the head of Walters for his goal. No big debate or any attempt to minimise the quality.

Of all the stupid conversations the RTE panel have had, that was one of the worst. It's almost as if they'd have preferred if he'd whipped it in and Andrews hadn't been able to get anywhere near it. Fact is Makgidi picked the perfect cross for the situation he was in - he couldn't afford to wait two seconds for Andrews to catch up because the defenders would have blocked the cross. He put an inch perfect cross into Andrews' path and relied on The Scorer of Important Goals to do what he does best.

    McGeady feud rumours

Clubs eye McGeady after fall-out with manager
a top pundit claims there are now tensions in his relationship with his boss.

“Why does McGeady look so awful now?” asked former Soviet star Yevgeny Lovchev. “Physically, he doesn’t seem in the best condition, it’s true. But there also appears to be a psychological problem.

“It looks as if he does not want to play for his current team any more. He is an Irish international but Valeri Karpin does not trust him, resulting in the player losing the spark which ignited his performances last year.”

Despite Billy Lad's injury McGeady is only on the bench again today for the home game with Zenit.

Spartak 1-0 down at half-time so Aiden is on for the second half. Plenty of streams available online.
