Seventh time seeing McGeady live and seventh time he's been the worst player on the pitch.

Absolutely rubbish player with no vision and no footballing brain

I'm better than Kilbane and McShane, but I expect more from McGeady (purely from the hype that surrounds him) so I'm harsher on him than I would be on McShane for instance.

That said McGeady is rubbish and I'd be in favour of dropping him if we had any other options on the flanks at all

Same here. We'll be left with no attacking threat whatsoever. Nice one Trap.

He knows that but there's no point arguing with a WUM.

maybe if we had players around him to give him decent ball rather than paul mcshane constantly hoofing it backwards to either centre back or goalkeeper. Fair enough he missed an absolute sitter, but he barely saw the ball for large parts of the game due to the negative tactics. Cant wait to see how a midfield of hunt andrews whelen and keogh get on against italy, should mcgeady be unfit
Havin a weekend away is quite frankly, lettin ur team mates down!

Im not the biggest fan of McGeadys and he had a largely ineffective game the other night but I dont think the lad was match fit and apparently he picked up a knee injury that got worse as the game went on. Looks unlikely to feature on wed by the sounds of it.

Just a side note, in the corner of the ground where I was McGeady got a disproportionate cheer when the teams were announced, suggesting the anti-Celtic bias put forward here isn't necessarily the case.

He looked like he was carrying an injury on Saturday (pulled out of a tackle late in the first half).
As EAFC says "Cant wait to see how a midfield of hunt andrews whelen and keogh get on against italy, should mcgeady be unfit". We need a fit McGeady. If for nothing else than a bit of hope that he might turn up and play to his full potential.

McGeady does waste an awful lot of good situations but to be fair he gets in these situations more than others. Also he does look for teh ball and awful lot and he does have what giles would call moral courage. He is an out ball and generally keeps a hold of it for longer than most of our players. I think he will be a big loss on Wed night as he has playled in Champions league games away from home and has way more experience than Keogh does and Keogh will be out of position.

Is McGeady frustrating yes but he is better than Hunt or Keogh on the wings. He has worked hard too at tracking back and he does this very well.

soccerrepublic.ie says he has trained since the game. RTE says same and says he's likely to be fit.

i think the main reason mcgeady struggled so much against bulgaria was because of paul mcshane. if you look back over the match, look at the amount of times mcgeady was in the right back position covering for the wayward mcshane. i remember one part of the match just after bulgaria had scored, mshane mis-timed a tackle and the ball was spread across infront of our two centre backs, and instead of reverting to his position and holding the line, mcshane ran across and eventually ended up about 2 yards away from kevin kilbane in the left back position, leaving mcgeady to sprint back to right back to cover. this is ridiculous, you wouldnt get away with that in a park game. o'shea gave mcshane an earful for it but mcshane wasnt having any of it, thats what annoys me most about him, he seems to think he has so much authority and responded by giving o'shea, one of our senior players, an earful. Mcshane out = better performance for the team in general.

Agreed, McGeady and Hunt suffered as a result of the poor performances by the full backs behind them. McGeady came through training ok today so you would expect him to start all going well.

Comment from Trap from the Times today:

"I hope he[McGeady] will be fit but if not then, as I said before, we have Andy Keogh who is in good form and we also have Shane Long."

How in the name of god can anyone see those two as wingers is beyond belief.

Sweet Jesus, that is just madness.Does he not remember how bad Keogh was on the wing against Poland.
As sick as I still am about the performance at the weekend Im doing my best not to go down the route of critising the manager yet, but statements like are whitteling away my confidence
    Its really not that complicated!!!

It really is astounding. The one thing I thought that we would not see again from the Staunton era was fitting square pegs into round holes but it's showns its ugly face once again. Unless Trap changes things around on Wednesday (which he has hinted that he won't in the same article) I'll have lost faith in his ability to get us to South Africa.

Ironically enough, I think the fact that Trapattoni has watched the DVDs of the Staunton era has actually given him the idea that certain players can play in the positions that Staunton used them.

This is not to say that he is playing everybody in the wrong positions, but if he had never seen Keogh play on the wing before for his club, would he be willing to do it if he hadn't watched the DVDs?

There is more of an arguement for playing Noel Hunt. he is right footed and at least we have seen a close relation of his play well on a wing
