i think Trappatoni and Brady is as good a managerial partnership as we could have got. Fingers crossed theyre going to be announced.
I am still concerned about his age
The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist thinks it will change; the realist adjusts the sails.
It looks like the boy has cried wolf one too many time for the disbelieving punters.
Brady has a steady secure job with Arsenal so it would suit him if he can hold onto that if he is to be a part of Trapattoni's team.
Or Steve McClaren when he had an even more demanding job as manager of Middlesbrough whilst also England's assistant.
From the Malone article in the IT
'Only in the past few days, however, has his (Trapattoni) interest in taking over the Irish team been confirmed to the FAI, with John Delaney apparently having been made aware of it earlier this week. The three members of the recruitment panel may have heard about it even more recently than that and it is believed that they will only get to interview him today.'
Sorta suggesting that Delaney made contact first with Trapattoni and then set it up with the interview panel.
I think Brady instigated this. In my view he probably acted as a go between Delaney and Trappatoni.
In Trap we trust
Don't really care who did what with whom. as long as Trap is announced as new manager tomorrow I'll be exstatic
But Trapattoni has revealed he has never been in talks with anyone regarding the Irish job, and he was not impressed upon hearing the news.
“I admire the imagination of certain people,” Trapattoni told APA news agency
“Two weeks ago, I was being linked with Africa, last week it was England and now we are talking about Ireland. I’m curious to see where I will be next week.”
It now seems unlikely that Trap will replace former Ireland boss Steve Staunton, who was axed after failing to secure a spot at Euro 2008.
Trapattoni is still one of Italy’s most successful coaches at club level, having made his name at Juventus after winning several major honours with the Bianconeri. He also won the Scudetto with Inter in 1989 as well as winning the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
However, he has never proved himself on the international stage. He left the Azzurri in 2004 after failing miserably at the European Championships in Portugal.
Could be a curve ball leaked by the FAI to distract everyone from Filipe Scolari being landed on a private jet at RAF Aldergrove and being driven in the back of a transit van to Dublin.
Well it's not like we're asking him to play in a support striker role aged 71. Unlike Robson, he hasn't already have health problems (afaik) and so there's no reason to think he couldn't handle the role. Obviously you're going to have his staff (Brady?) in charge of the bulk of training (as the younger Quieroz does for the Ferguson at Man Utd). Even if we get one campaign out of him, he could steady the ship which we desperately need, and who knows if the partnership is a success perhaps Brady could be then take over and keep the continuity? Any reservations over this seem appointment would be very harsh.
I think that 'Len' would be a good appointment, has all the experienced needed to fill in this job and he has much success although with the bigger teams, but he still guided them towards victory.
Together with all our hearts.
please let it be so. He is a pensioner but by God we'll tighten up at the back and defend set pieces.
"If God had meant football to be played in the air, he'd have put grass in the sky." Brian Clough.
You'll NEVER beat the Irish.......you'll just draw with us instead!!!
A bit of reverse psychology here: Given how this story has clearly built momentum and given (a) how well it'd be received if true and (b) how much of a let down it'd be of TV got the job and consequently how much derision would be pointed the FAI's way, I suspect that if Trap isn't the man they'd have nipped it in the bud through media sources already today. Instead by calling the meeting they're fuelling this specualtion, setting themselves up to look great if true but disastrous if not.
It sure looks like Delaney made the first official contact unilaterally, probably with Brady involved, by sounding out Trapattoni perhaps.
