Early McCabe goal straight from a corner and Ireland causing Canada issues in the opening ten minutes.

Canada are completely there for the taking
If we don't win it could be a career regret for our players

That was a great move leading to the corner McCabe scored from.

Have given away two goals now off really regrettable individual errors, which is a gut punch. Have done really well this half, containing them at the back, and better going forward too. No need for any big change in the second, Canada will have to over-commit the longer it all goes on and there will be opportunities on the counter. They have to keep pinging balls in behind the Canadian #3, on a yellow and looking really flaky.

The rain looks brutal. Not what you'd expect from an Aussie World Cup, even if it is winter there.

Very unfortunate goal to give away, but overall a really positive start.

It's been bad in the second, or maybe Canada have just woken up and started playing like the side they are meant to be. This could get quite ugly if they don't get a handle on it. Defenders keep switching off at critical moments.

You could tell how this game was going to go when Canada got that own goal. We needed to play at our best get a slice of luck along the way and sadly Canada are the ones who got the slice of luck…

Second half kind of showed Ireland's level I think, badly off the pace for 15 mins, able to string together a few moves after that but without any really tangible threat upfront. Canada looked comfortable enough. It's a shame they won't go into the last game with something to play for but I suppose this was always, on paper, the most likely outcome.

Desperately unfortunate. Should have went in 1-0 at the break and it could have led to an entirely different second half. Never arrived out onto the pitch after half time though and struggled for a lot of the second half. A real shame not to have a chance of progression with the Nigeria game, but a chance to take a bit of pride home.

Second half was a completely different game, fortunate not to concede more tbf, don’t have the players of the bench to compete like Canada were able to do….

I think their no.19 would have scored from the inswinger that led to the first had Connolly not got a touch. It was a great ball in.

On the first-half showing, you wouldn't have had Canada down as Olympic champions, but it became more apparent as the game wore on.

They managed the game cleverly, disrupting Irish momentum and slowing it down, time wasting. The OG was very unlucky and not helped by the dreadful weather conditions. It had a massive effect on the complexion of the game, as they say.

McCabe's goal was fantastic and will no doubt send people out to pitches to try it themselves across the country.

I was thinking whether it would have been worth getting McCabe higher up the pitch in the second half with a small formation tweak. Denise O'Sullivan could have dropped deeper to get on the ball more then, possibly, which would have allowed us to control the tempo a bit more instead of having it dictated to us.

Posted the starting XI stats for the game on Wednesday: https://mastodon.ie/@irish_abroad/110780242251520412
I did notice that there's no players under 25, and six aged 30, or more, so was wondering if it was the oldest starting XI for the women's team
Had to track down a lot of birthdays, and couldn't find details on a lot of players, but found enough to compile the average age for the starting XI in 229 of the 287 games that are recognised as full internationals by the FAI
