Just look at their team. Solid defence, superb midfield and a mixture of creativity and goals upfront. 18-1 is an excellent price IMO.

A side not good enough to get into the UEFA through league position is not overnight going to become a great side by the signing of two players. Especially not these two. I'm not daft enough to even entertain such an idea. Talk about folly.

They haven't become a great side overnight. They already had a team that was going to do well in the competition.

The question that needs to be asked and answered is where did West Ham get the money to buy two 30 million rated players.

They didn't buy them, they hold their registration and that is it. As soon as MSI decide they need to be sold, West Ham will have no choice in the matter. Even Portsmouth wouldn't agree to the terms that West Ham have.

I hate that a Sports Company can own a players registration, this will become more and more common and can only lead to problems IMO. Clubs will no longer be able to call the shots when it comes to marketing and TV revenue.

I mean what happens if there is a little dispute between MSI and West Hams board, will they deny the Hammers permision to play the 2 of them

Don't be stupid. If West Ham 9or any other club) were offered the players on a one year loan (or even 6 months) and refused it, every single person would say they were mad to refuse it. They get the use of two the world's best players and people are complaining. Get out of our 'British' football mind set and look at continental europe where players go on one and 2 year loans and players are 'owned' by multiple clubs.

So are you saying it's a good thing that companies like MSI can "own" players Dodge? Also, what in your opinion are the benefits of the continental system where multiple clubs can have a stake in the players registration?

I personally don't see anything wrong with someone prefering the traditional system of one club holding a players registration.

2 clubs refused the loan deal so I think you best keep quiet about that which you nothing about. They are not two of the worlds best players either, only championship manager playing clueless kids are under that impression. As for West Ham, they were developing a good attacking side with players that they own, now for a year at best they'll have two players who by all accounts will have to play if they are fit reagrdless of their form. You think this is a good deal, get a clue will you.

MSI own the players, they just can't hold the player's registration. West Ham hold that.

Tevez has won South American player of the year the last 3 years. Mascherano was Argentina's best player in the last world cup. If you think they're not great, I'm not going to bother arguing with you. (although I did say if they were offered on loan (which they're not) so your point about two clubs turning them is useless)

As for the ownership thing, I wasn't saying the european system was better, I was just saying that its been around a while and is only coming to the attention of some fans now. Its here to stay, and if clubs like West Ham want top top class players this is the way they're going to get them.

Nobody had heard of Mascherano before the world cup, I'm under no (dis)illusion about him being "great", One swallow and all that. But hey feel free to.
West ham hold the players registration, they don't own them at all so it can't in reality be considered anything other than a loan.
The thing about West Ham is that they were progressing nicely, so I just don't see why playing shop window for a year benefits their development in any way. Its not like they are strapped for cash that they need to take players on loan, especially under the circumstances they did.
