    Observations from a newcomer

Firstly let me say a big hello to all on the site. I heard about it through my flatmate and decided to register and here I am. I have been at a fair few Lims games over the past two years and have mixed opinions.

The first point I’d like to make is that I believe that sacking Noel O’Connor was a mistake. I had watched his progress with Pat Dolan for a couple of seasons with Cork City and I believe that they had the perfect blend of whats needed in a managerial partnership. Before ye all start diving down my throat, I agree that O’Connor on his own didn’t work out and that it couldn’t continue. I think he lacks man management skills and perhaps the eye to making the critical switch or change that changes games. However, his skills as a qualified coach cannot be questioned and I think that Danny Drew should have paired him up with Dolan again. They obviously thrive off each other and with the squad of players there, I believe they would cruise up the table again no bother.

Secondly, I think that Paul Finnucane should be restored to the side as soon as he is fit enough. He’s too good to have on the bench or with the under 21’s.

Thirdly, great credit must be given to Danny Drew for putting his money where his mouth is. The club have signed well and now must pay well. However, as a club chairman surely someone who knows him should tell him to act like one at games; dress the part, mix with opposition officials and stop racing around like a mad yoke barking orders at people on and off the field. And why was he in the dugout last Saturday in Belfield…I couldn’t believe it when I saw him. Why was Billy Barrett only watching the game?

Fourthly; Hogan Park is a dump. But it’s a dump with potential. Buying a Greenfield site for development is a non-starter. Its going to cost millions and that sort of money just isn’t in Limerick football at the moment because of ongoing popularity of GAA, and constantly rising popularity in Team MunsterThe lease issue with the FAI is an ideal way to look to the future, yet for some strange reason Danny Drew seems hell bent on defying them. I hope he doesn’t bite off his nose to spite his face cos that’s what it seems like he’s doing. Take a realistic view Danny, not a glory hunting, personal one. Theres fans and the clubs future to be considered.

As for who the next boss is going to be; Pat Dolan, Roddy Collins, Steven Lally, Don O’Riordan, Tony Mannion, Dermot Keely, Alan Reynolds, Mike Kerley, Liam Buckley and Gareth Farrelly are all unemployed ex EL managers, and I’m sure theres a few more out there. Mannion and Reynolds are probably the two likeliest I’d say.

The club has a potentially bright future, but is approaching a crossroads. Danny Drews next steps are critical in the clubs progress. I hope he takes the right ones.

It's a rookie mistake, and you hate to see it happen in the first post.... ......welcome to the site all the same!

Would have to agree with you on this point, he employs so many people on match night it staggers the imagination why he is in the tuck shop on night, the ticket office another night and picking up rubbish around the ground on other nights. Don't get me wrong I ave a lot of admiration for the guy but, take a few steps back mate, let those whom you employ look after these affairs, and concentrate on matters that only a club Chairman can deal with, you might find that you will become more laid back in dealing with issues on match night.
