David O'Leary would have been an interesting appointment as Ireland manager imo. He wouldn't have any money to throw down the drain or chairmans to badger either.

If I can just digress for a sec: Chuck, I'm likely to be visiting the folks at Easter and I see Rovers are playing Bohs at Tallaght on Good Friday. I've been reading that these games are now even "tastier" than in my day. Is it a good idea to bring my wee lad? He's 8.

Haha, no they're nothing like they were. Aside from Dundalk fans who seem to always manage to get into fights with the local heads, games in Tallaght are safe and segregated. Same in Phibsboro. The place is full of kids under 10, many of whom go on their own, so it's really not a dangerous or hostile atmosphere at all. Bohs never bring huge numbers anyway and the ultras/casuals all have their fights in town later in the night.

That would be part of a typical conversation between Shamrock Rovers supporters, to refer to aggro as something tasty.

McPhail only yesterday was a kid playing underage for Ireland in Iceland at the Euro championship finals, now in the twilight of his career, time does fly. I can't imagine he will be up to much with shamrock rovers, more time off the park than on, considering his state of ill health. No threat to the Pats/Dundalk/Rovers triumvirate stranglehold at the top.

You've changed, geysir. Time was you were well up for a bit of tasty aggro.

McPhail will do fine in the league. The slower tempo and more technical style will suit his bandy knees. Rovers will still be lucky to get fourth though.

It's not McPhaill's legs that are the issue, he's a physically weak person and will no doubt suffer bouts of very low energy. If he's on pay for play terms, then it's fair enough.

That's nonsense. His fitness issues are in his legs, not his physical condition.

Obviously a bit head mental too to sign for Shamrocks.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Perhaps there are 2 McPhails, but the one I'm thinking of has been treated for lymphoma and now suffers from regular bouts of exhaustion and a destructive debilitating disease process. Inflammation of his joints are only one of the effects.

I'm not sure why you'd confuse fatigue with physical weakness. He gets treatment to manage his condition which has kept him in good enough shape to work as an elite athlete.

Where did I confuse fatigue with physical weakness? His physical weakness is well documented, lymphoma, heavy drug treatment, a couple of years out, chronic fatigue, and now has the symptoms of further chronic disease and the conventional treatment involves steroids and non steroids. The nature of his symptoms is that they come and go with no rhyme or reason and are systemic.
And you say my concerns about his fitness are nonsense, it's just his bandy legs
He may have enough in him, just about, to play another season, then again he may not, but personally I would not gamble precious money on the prospect that he will be fit to play. It isn't a case of a very skilled player just getting a bit slower with age.

Charlie did you ever see the family guy where the Star Trek TNG cast is on, and they go to the McDonalds drive through with Stewie Driving? It's a riot. Worf tries to order a McDlt.

He doesn't have chronic fatigue, he has a condition that results in intermittent fatigue. I didn't say it was a player getting slower with age - I'm saying it's a player who's gotten slower due to a succession of injuries. If his injuries are what you meant by physically weak, fine, but it certainly appeared you were conflating the two.

He's a player who has been affected by a series of chronic diseases as well as physical injuries. I'd say he's been affected by both, because he says he's been affected by both and medical evidence says he's been affected by both. His exhaustion is connected to his chronic disease not his physical injuries. The exhaustion is intermittent because that's the nature of his symptoms, "they come and go with no rhyme or reason and are systemic"
He's done well to get back on the pitch and playing but this is a risky signing for Shamrock Rovers. Certainly I hope he can have a good full season.
