Candystripes consider a venue change
Derry City are mulling over a difficult decision after landing a dream UEFA Cup first round clash against Paris St Germain in today's draw in Monaco. Derry's Brandywell ground can house only 3,000 supporters but any choice of alternative venue carries significant political, historical and geographical implications.
The Candystripes have played their football in the eircom League since 1985 and are set to reject offers - including reportedly one from Linfield - to play their big match in Belfast. However the only other viable alternative is to play 150 miles away at Lansdowne Road and Derry chief executive Jim Roddy admitted the decision to leave the Brandywell would therefore be a tough one.

Derry considering alternative venues
Derry City are considering an alternative venue to stage their Uefa Cup first round home leg against Paris Saint Germain next month. The club’s Brandywell home has hosted the preliminary round games against IFK Gothenburg and Gretna.
An extra 500 temporary seats were installed for the latter outing, taking the capacity to approximately 2900, but tickets still sold out two weeks before Gretna’s visit and demand is expected to multiply for the game against the Parisians on September 28th.
