When are the semi's to be played? Anybody got any toughts on how they'll go?
I would love to see Villa FC win the tournament even though they have a tough away game coming up. They are a really well run Waterford club that hasn't enjoyed much success in recent years but are moving in the right direction. Even though Killester are favourites (and rightly so) this competition has thrown up pleanty of shocks so far and who knows? It is all on the day - that's the beauty of football.
anyone got a report on the match yesterday?
I have a few mates playing with Villa. Apparently Bosco were very lucky to win. Villa dominated the 1st half without scoring. Midway during the 2nd half Villa scored through a superb effort from Kevin O' Brien. Shortly after Bosco had a man sent off. Amazingly they equalised in the 73rd mins. After that there were few chances of note, although Villa missed a sitter in injury time. Bosco won 4-2 on pens. A v.bad way to go out, but Villa did Waterford proud. Killester should win it out now. Anybody else at the match? have a report.
FAI Junior Cup semi-finals;
Killester United v Salthill Devon
St.John Bosco
As I mentioned in my last post a number of weeks ago the Villa did very well to get this far given the players in their squad. Not a patch on the Crystal or Carrick teams that reached finals the last three years!
Very sorry to see them go out but don't think they would have been a match for either Killester or Salthill.
As long as Killester don't blow up like they did in the semi final last year they should win it.
Have any of the three left in the competition won it before??
As far as I'm aware none of the three clubs left in the competition have won it before.
The winners of Salthill/Killester are favourites now, if memory serves me correctly, Killester hammered Bosco on the opening day of the AUL season (5 or 6 nil) at Haddon Park. From what I was told Killester outclassed them that day (can anyone confirm?)
St John Bosco are stuggling in their league, bottom and unlikely to survive - its amazing how a teams form can change during a cup run as opposed to the week in week out league football - but I don't think their form differs that much, after saying all that, they'll win it now and I will be proved wrong.
Its easy to shout abuse at the ref - how would you like it if he did it back?
dont rule out Salthill to pull off the shock of the season
Bosco are still the outsiders, but there achievements must not be taken lightly. They have shown great commitment and determination to get this far. Apparantly they have a new manager and this has coincided with improved form in the AUL. They have drawn there last two games. Killester are still the favourites, but they were beaten the weekend by Ballymun. They are beatable, and Salthill can cause a shock. Salthill are top of the Galway leauge which is very competitive. It would be a great story if Bosco won though
FAI Youths last 8 Newcastle West V Everton @Ballygowen Park kick off 3pm Sathurday
Was at the game there on Sunday. Villa did have a good first half but the loss of a man really galvanized the Bosco defence. Two penalty decisions turned down (definitley arm to ball in at least one) in Villa's favour. The "sitter" Villa missed in injury time was actually a superb save by the Bosco keeper who went on to save 2 penalties very well. Overall the standard of penalties was very high and the game was a good advert for the Cup. Tiredness/cramp took its toll in the second half but that being said the effort was immense...the goal Villa scored was also a peach
I was at the Killester - Bosco game, Bosco were hopeless in that game. I think Bosco had just lost their manager and half their team. Since then they have a new manager and I heard a few teams near Bosco folded and they got a few new players. It is very different in a cup anything can happen on the day. Killester have to get past Salthill first which will not be an easy game.
The Bosco keeper is a bit of a legend - undoubtedly the key man in the game on Sunday - made some good saves and had a real presence about him, especially for penalties. We are disappointed not to have won, especially after dominating a lot of the game, but fair play to Bosco they showed lots of spirit and character, defended really well and were dangerous on the counter. Good luck to them in the final.
