Glamour draw for Derry that will justify moving the game to Windsor. Have to think little hope of proceeding but could cause an upset at home.
Drogs would not have been drawn Ajax as Drogs would have been in a different sub draw due to the kinda seeding nature of the draws. Uefa love complicated systems that no one can make out.
Newcastle are gammy as they only win 1-0 against the Lithuanians & then get drawn the lowest ranked team in the unseeded section.![]()
The match won't be played at Windsor. As Jim Roddy mentioned during last week, how would the people of the Village area feel about a tricolour flying over the ground.
"The Derry fans were fantastic in both matches. They sang their hearts out all the time and created an even better atmosphere than the Cup Final. They were brilliant. - David Graham, Gretna striker
Maribor on the Derry forum noted that the system picks the 5-team seeding pots on a kind of...
Strong seed
Slight strong seed
Middling seed
Slightly weak seed
Weak seed
...basis. Start and Drogheda would more than nlikely both fall into the "Weak seed" category, so on that basis, it's quite possible they would have just taken Start's place.
I prefer to go along with chaos theory, which says that if a butterfly beating its wings can affect the weather on the other side of the world, then the difference between writing "Start Kristiansund" and "Drogheda United" on the team list would have ensured Drogheda would have gotten anyone bar Ajax.![]()
Tolka would qualify, wouldn't it? A middling capacity.
Doubt it. Floodlights are ****in terrible, I noticed at the league cup game. I doubt new the bulbs were working, the pitch looked extremely dark!
Also :
Way easier in Dalyer to make way for extra media facilities because of the way the press area is layed out.Originally Posted by dcfc 1928
Also our gantry can see the WHOLE pitch, unlike Tolka!
I don't think Tolka is- think that was the main reason Shels moved the Lille game to Lansdowne.
Hmmm...I thought people were saying back then that it was a soubtful decision moving to Lansdowne and the game should have been played in Tolka with the crowd that showed up in the end. Maybe I'm wrong.
AFAIK, some people st the time were arguing that the game should have been played at Tolka on the basis that demand for tickets wouldn't be the same as for LaCoruna. Apparently, this was refuted by the club, who said that Tolka didn't fulfil certain UEFA criteria.
SK wants the game at the Brandy, and according to some our floodlights meet the 1200lux criteria. Just other things such as cctv of inside and out etc is where the brandy will fail.
Hopefully the game will be played at the Brandywell. Its best that Derry are drawn at home first. We can get tv money from French TV and hopefully that will satisfy the needs of the board. Stephen Kenny wants the match at the Brandywell. If we have any chance of progressing we need to take a result to Paris. I can only see this happening if Paris come and play the game in Derry. The Brandywell is the only place we can hope to get a result. Playing elsewhere is a neutral venue and if we move the tie, we can kiss any ambition LOI football has goodbye. In saying that people are stating the Brandywell isn't up to standard for 1st round games. I've yet to hear a club official utter these words. So here's to hope.
I think the only other ground where the derry fans can impose themselves is dalymount. If the brandywell fails the test I would want the game in dalyer if I was a derry fan
No Comment.
Definitely won't be in Windsor anyway- http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...pe/5286162.stm
It would obviously better for Derry to have the game in the Brandywell but would Athlone's stadium be ready if the Brandywell wasn't up to scratch? I think Athlone's will meet most UEFA requirements, not sure on media stuff though.
If they want it bad enough they can do it. The basics are ok surely? CCTV, wireless Interenet etc - could be set up in a few hours. They should play it in the Brandywell and charge £50 per ticket. That would be the clever thing to do. Or they can rent Landsdowne , get a crownd of 8000 or so , make a loss and get hammered. If eircom league sides are going to play the most important matches in their history away from home they dont deserve progress. Kenny wants the Brandywell because he knows its the only hope of an upset - simple as that. Get a 0-0 draw or 1-0 victory and who knows away from home.
Shels moved the champions league game because they had to - they didnt have to move the lille game. If Turners Cross was ok last year i see no reason why the Brandywell would not be ok this year.
It looks like Derry are going for a scalp here - they are trying to switch the away leg to be first. Great move if they can get it. They could surprise them. Then bring them back to the Brandywell. I would put money on it will be in the Brandywell because its what Kenny wants and as we all know Kenny knows best![]()
