    Centre midfield for Stuttgart

I am not his biggest fan in the world but do you think it would be worth playing Carsley against Germany. He seems solid and would calm down things in midfield - I am not suggesting he is our saviour but he may well be able to help us out against Germany

On first glance .. that seems like a silly post .. but the more I think about it, he's actually one of the few proper holding midfield players that we have (access to - hasn't he retired). It might be a better idea than playing a winger or fullback in that position .. or someone who is not up for it at a higher level i.e. Kavanagh, Miller

Before the Dutch Fiasco this week, I was telling a friend that I have never been so pessimistic going in to qualifying campaign for years.. After Wednesday I am now dreading Saturday September 2nd! I just don't know how we can compete against this German side particularly if they play the same brand of high tempo football they managed in the World Cup..

A few weeks ago I'd gladly have slated you for suggesting Carsley has something to offer us....now I'm not so sure.

I would of slated myself a while back saying that but we need a calming influence - he is unspectacular but solid - perhaps thats what we need.

I am expecting a defeat - if we manage anything out of that game it will be a HUGE confidence booster

If Carsley is good enough to get into the Everton team and performs adequately then of course he should be considered for the squad.

if dont think it will be a white wash , a poor scots team got a draw with them not too long ago, however i think klose well terrorise our defense and our "midfield" will be stuck way back in our own half through out.

    2-0

We probably get 1 0r 2 half attempts our selfs

If i see kavanagh and kilbane on the team sheet im watching northern ireland i swear

Kavanagh should never start!........he is most definitely NOT International standard ( even one as poor as ours at present)....he gives the ball away so easily, and never knows what to do with it...except "hoof it"!

I also, am now dreading the trip to Stuttgart, although the pain will lessen ( from the Dutch Horror Show ) and the "false" optimism will begin to reappear the nearer we get to September 2nd.

IMO the games against Cyprus away and the Czechs at home are much more important games for us in terms of results than the Germany game.

Carsley was the first person I thought of after that game.

Just goes to prove the best game you will ever have for Ireland is the game you dont play in. no offence to Carsley but he wouldnt make any differance to our midfield.

Beggars can't be choosers. I reckon Carsley is an option that we would rather have than not have. It's amazing to think he's an improvement on what's there. Would anyone have ever imagined saying that.

    My team for Germany would be;

    Given
    Carr - Dunne - O'Brien- O'Shea

    Finnan - S. Reid - Ireland - Duff

    Doyle - Keane

Subs: McGeady, Andy Reid, Kilbane, Carsley, Kenny.

I'd drop Carr, and put Finnan at right back... he's one of the best right backs in the premiership for crying out loud.... as for the rest of the team... I dont know if i'd put Ireland in there... he fades badly in games...

We may not win with Carsley , but we have much better chance with him in the centre than with the midfield competition.

Maybe with O'Shea they may be able to tighten up the centre with the creativity down the wings.

Say what you like about Carsley but he's not afraid to grab the game by the balls.

    The Crab

Carsley? Surely this is a joke. He was never an aggressive midfielder. Just a very average crab player.

Carsley got the full 90 today today. Kavanagh came on as a late sub.

He came out of retirement. I think it was a bit like Hartson, "I'm here if needed".
