    Rovers Get Three-point Deduction

According to their forum. Gives us a great incentive to win tomorrow night: the chance to go top!

    from aertel::

Shamrock Rovers have been hit with a
three point deduction for playing Paul
Shiels while he was under suspension.

Shiels picked up the ban while playing
for the now defunct Dublin City and
Rovers were unaware of the ban when he
lined out for them against Dundalk.

However, the eircom League Board of
Control saw fit to deduct three points
from the Hoops. It is not yet known if
    the club will appeal.

Derry City escaped punishment for a
similar offence. Sean Hargan played for
City while banned, but the League
accepted that notice of the ban was not
    sent in the prescribed timeframe.

I wouldn't get too excited about it yet. Under the circumstances of Dublin City becoming defunct i'm sure they'll be able to get the decision overturned on the basis of the Derry decision and their a big club that will be required in the "John Delaney" Invitational League as its been called on other forums.

Anyway I'm sure we'd all prefer to win it on merit from the playing field rather than have others moaning about it! But it would be good to go top for the psychological advantage nonetheless.

exactly, everybody want to win the league from the performances of our own team on the pitch and not the mistakes of others. Now lets all forget about rovers until october (i think?) and concentrate on ourselves.

Derry weren't deducted points because they weren't notified of the suspension in time. Nothing to do with Dublin City going bust.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.

    It's hardly gloating!

Rovers have done very well this season but we're still very close to them. In the game between the 2 teams there has been nothing to suggest that Rovers are better or have any better strength in depth.

It's a big game for us tomorrow but then we've games against 4 of the bottom 5 so could well pick up a decent amount of points. Whereas Rovers play 4 of the top 6 in that same period of time.

Agree with some of the postings above, better to win the League on the pitch, points deductions give a false impression of the league when they are for admin problems.

    rovers

will get the points back anyway at some point so i wouldnt put too much faith in the powers that be that run the league.
it could give us the impetus to drive on in the meantime and by the time they give the points back we will have raced away from rovers who at some stage will hit a sticky point in this league despite having signed 41players this season
