Former Players

I'm sure all Dublin City fans will be keeping an eye on players who have had to move on from your club. Waterford have taken on four in the past few days. I've seen Ger McCarthy and Robbie Hedderman a few times, but don't know much about Keely Junior or David Conroy (maybe ye didn't get to see him either). Just wondering could ye let me know how you rated these players. Also, what did you think of Gareth Cronin? There's still some hope among fans that Ben Whelehan might be persuaded to come back to the Blues too.

By the way (and I swear I'm not taking the p*ss as I have immense sympathy for you all), what have you been doing these days? Gone to any Shels games?

Ger Mac - Physiological freak with remarkable pace and stamina, an okay striker when fit.

Robbie Hedderman - Better at left-full than centre-half. A danger in both boxes. Reasonably good on the ball, but brimming with spite and malice and always one neuronal misfire away from a red card. I was quite fond of him.

Alan Keely - Competent (in a manic sort of way) and energetic defender, moderately quick, tends to play as the covering centre-half alongside a man-marker (preferably Ben Whelehan, who as you're doubtless aware would be a brilliant signing.) Occasionally pins back his ears and embarks on madcap escapades upfield, very difficult to dispossess whilst dribbling despite his slipshod technique.

David Conroy - A legend with Ballymun United and at Junior international level. Didn't look particularly secure during scarce appearances for DC.

Gareth Cronin - A very nice guy who will undoubtedly finish last (this season at least.) If his preferred strategy and/or tactics differ from the primitive junk espoused by Dermot Keely, he didn't make that fact known during two years as Keely's assistant. Good luck to him though.

As for me, I've only been to one football match since City folded (Drogheda vs. HJK Helsinki.) My secondary allegiance has always been to Limerick and active support isn't exactly a viable proposition. Don't see myself attending too many games from now tbh.

Our next two away games are both in Dublin man (UCD and Rovers, you'd be very welcome).

Think Gar Cronin will do well for you lads so long as ye have a bit of patience. I mean has anyone ever inherited such a mess as this at the RSC? Not in my lifetime anyway. He won't take any sh1t from any slackers, so anyone who's not up for the fight will be out the gate long before he is. Keely, and McCarthy should do very well for you. Obviously if you had Keely and Ben together again you'd be getting a super pair of centre halves who know each others game inside out. Unfortunately this has all probably come a bit late for you.

As far as going to games, I have only been to one so far, realistically there are only two sides I could ever really consider shouting for at any time in the future. Not sure how long it will take to get back on the horse, but in any event it will undoubtedly be in a much more diminished capacity than it was with City. Any further games I attend this season will be in my City gear anyway, the response from those I meet along the way might help to make my mind up for me regarding future actions.

Thanks lads. That's exactly what I wanted. You won't mind if I paste your comments onto our site btid.net to give us a hint of what to expect. Sheridan, I was at that Drogheda game too with fellow Blues and will be at the Start game next week. While you may have had the vicarious thrill of supporting another Irish club for the night, for us, it was the vicarious thrill of shouting for a good team for a change!
