Athlone Town 0 - 0 Waterford United

Athlone Town and Waterford United played out a nil all draw this evening in Saint Mel's Park, in the First Division Cup, Southern Section.

Town domimated the game, and could have won three or four nil, with a number of chances saved or cleared off the line. One such chance fell to new signing David Murphy, when he rounded Wayne Russell in the United goal, but the angle was just to tight to drill the ball home, and Russell got down to save it on the line.

On tonight's evidence, Athlone are in for a relatively good season, and should finish at least mid-table. They controlled most of the game, but just could not convert their chances. Waterford on the other hand were poor and have some discipline problems, with a number of players picking up yellow cards
