    Support TV3 and Oppose Sky

    Hi Pete,

You're a reasonable person, so I'll ask you to change your poll to reflect a mistake in the question.

There is no such thing as the Sky/TV3 TV Rights Deal.

There is a deal with Sky about International games and the FAI Cup final.

There is a different deal with TV3 about the Eircom league and delayed coverage of internationals.

This distinction was immediately clear after the deal was signed: the trend on EL discussion boards was support for the TV3 deal and outrage at the Sky deal.

It was only later that the deals became merged together in some peoples minds into a "FAI/Sky/TV3" deal that seems to be opposed by some people largely on the basis of opposition to RTE's coverage of the Eurcom League.

But there is no such composite deal. You can, at the same time, oppose Sky getting the rights to Ireland and support greater coverage via TV3 of the EL.

Can I suggest that you change the poll to reflect this?

Just as I suspected and by the look of the results of this poll so far, Alan Hunter and co do not reflect the wishes of the majority of the true Irish football fans.

I voted against it on principle. I don't think a deal should ever be signed that will deny people the right to watch their country play unless they subscribe to an expensive tv company. However I fully understand the FAI's motives in what they have done, particularly considering the intransigence of rte which as eL fans, we know better than most.

    tough one to call.
