    Provisional Holland squad for friendly

    Holland coaches Marco van Basten and John van't Schip have announced a provisional list of 31 players for the August 16 friendly against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin.

    The squad will be further trimmed before Holland fly to the Irish capital.

    Goalkeepers: Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Henk Timmer (AZ Alkmaar).

    Defenders: Urby Emanuelson (Ajax), Johnny Heitinga (Ajax), Khalid Boulahrouz (Hamburg), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (FC Barcelona), Tim de Cler (AZ Alkmaar), Kew Jaliens (AZ Alkmaar), Jan Kromkamp (Liverpool), Joris Mathijsen (AZ Alkmaar), Andre Ooijer (PSV Eindhoven), Gijs Luirink (AZ Alkmaar), Barry Opdam, (AZ Alkmaar), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord).

    Midfielders: Mark van Bommel (FC Barcelona), Denny Landzaat (Wigan Athletic), Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax), Wesley Sneijder (Ajax), Rafael van der Vaart (Hamburg), Stijn Schaars (AZ Alkmaar), Nigel de Jong (Hamburg), George Boateng (Middlesbrough), Arjen Robben (Chelsea).

    Forwards: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Ryan Babel (Ajax), Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV Eindhoven), Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord).

    how has he been playing in preseason for Arsenal? I would have thought he'd be slightly off the pace, after been given extra time off for playing in the World Cup
