makes a bit more sense of the Stephen Reid to spurs story anyway.
Manchester United have had a £10m bid for midfielder Michael Carrick rejected by Tottenham, BBC Sport can reveal.
Spurs dismissed the offer, insisting United would have to double their offer to land the 24-year-old, who is part of the England squad at the World Cup.
Manchester United faxed their offer to Tottenham on Friday, but it was swiftly turned down.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants Carrick as a replacement for Roy Keane who left the club last December.

Double there offer? Spurs must be desperate to make a few quid back after all the 500 or 600 signings over the past 2 seasons! I wouldnt even pay the 10 million united are offering![]()
Do you even have 10million Terry?Originally Posted by Terry

The Pie Man has spoken
could we work out a payment plan
The transfer is official now- £17m.
Over-priced and not good enough for Man Utd. Don't think he will make a good partnership with Scholes either.
Not actually official just yet but will be announced tomorrow or the day after.
He is good enough for United IMHO but not worth 17million. And I actually think he could work well with Scholes. United also after Javier Mascherano. Was one of Argentina's best players in the world cup and plays for Corinthians, which could be a hindrance to any United bid because Corinthians owner(s) are linked to Abramovich which means he could halt the deal if he wanted to.
£17m is ridiculous. Liverpool bought Xabi Alonso for £10m, and he's three times the player Carrick is. Lampard wouldn't go for much more than £17m, Carrick is completely over-priced. A huge waste of money IMO, Fergie has lost it. I mean if Carrick is worth £17m, how much is Ashley Cole worth so?! SWP at £24m, Ferdinand at £30m+, Carrick £17m, Michael Owen £17m, Scott Parker £10m+ - all completely over-priced and over-rated. English players are just not worth the money. Only players that are worth big fees are Rooney, Gerrard and Terry.Originally Posted by De Town
Utd have no money. The fact that they had to wait until the RVN deal was agreed with Real to make an official bid for Carrick should tell you that. I had to laugh at Ferguson the other day, commending RVN on his attitude in training, putting a brave face on etc when in reality he couldn't wait to see the back of him. Worrying times for Utd fans.....Originally Posted by De Town

Sorry I worded my point incorrectly. Carrick is similar to Andrea Pirlo in that he is a holding midfield player but rather than being a ball winner, he is a creative midfielder. Pirlo has Gattuso playing beside him, who is a box-to-box player who gets stuck into the opposition and will win possession of the ball. Scholes will not win ball in midfield and I think that being too lightweight in CM will cost United dear.Originally Posted by De Town
If Mascherano arrives at OT it would be a great signing. If he arrives I think Ferguson could change back to the 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation used towards the end of Keane's Man Utd career. A CM combination of Carrick, Mascherano and Scholes would work well together I think.

I'm not sure about that, they still posted a big profit on last years accounts and before any RVN transfer had the added bonus of £12m in their coffers in "silence" money from Chelsea over the Obi Mikel saga.
Personally, I think Carrick is a nice tidy player but I wouldn't pay £10m for him never mind anything above. He doesn't have the class to stamp his mark on a game.
Actually your wrong there. Will post the link when I find it, but, the glaziers gave Fergie a £40 million treasure chest at the start of the month and was told that whatever money gained from the sale of other players would also be made available to him immediately.Originally Posted by 4tothefloor

The money they got for the Swedish left back paid for Lee the Korean Left back. They paid something like 2 million for Paul Robinson. Lennon was bought for 1 million also. Waste of 15 million if they go through with this.
Hansen might think Carrick's world class but he isn't even close IMO- 2 or 3 neat passes a game is not gonna win you Championships. Mascherano is a step forward and I'm hoping this comes off instead but by the looks of it Carrick is number 1 target now. I think Man Utd will struggle again in trying to compete with Chelski if this is the 'masterplan' for this season. They need 2 new MF and a striker to replace RVN, Saha is ok but will never set the world alight.
hey NeilMcD, dont be quoting other people and putting my name on it !!!!
What are you talking about I just clicked on the quote button that is what you said.
