    Work problem

Have just spent my first week back at work since I broke my ankle and am finding it really difficult to get comfortable....I have to keep my leg raised coz it swells otherwise but trying to get something to rest it on is a nightmare. I have tried putting it on my cpu but the heat and electrical vibrations are causing me more discomfort, also have tried putting it on another chair but that means I cant sit properly at my desk and have now go a sore back from sitting in an awkward position so that I can answer my phone and post messages on foot.ie at the same time....

Any suggestions for a more comfortable way of working coz have at least 5 more weeks of this **** b4 my cast comes off.

No.....dont like pro evo....or any footie games! I was in hospital last year and missed about 3 weeks work because of it and when my contract was being renewed in June the CEO said he wasnt impressed with my being off sick so took the bare minimum this time. I only work til 1 so its not too bad so if I could just get comfortable....

magicme, i dislocated my knee cap last january 2005 and took 3 and half weeks off so i nearly had 5 weeks off work in total including xmas holidays. however it still wasnt worth the pain of getting a bloodcot removed by an evil pakistani doctor jabbing a 4 inch needle into my knee cap....

anyhow i found that the only way i could get comfortable when i finally got back to work was lying down on my chair as in slouched. the problem with that though is your lower back gets relaly sore after a while ( because you dont have any support for the lower part of your back as you are lying back on the chair ), unfortunately it really is the only way to get somewhat comfortable with the minimum amount of strain on your back.....

Sit a little back from your desk so you've got space to strectch out your leg but can still reach your computer and phone easily and then just rest your leg on a thick cushion or pillow.

Failing that just constantly keep your foot in a bucket of cold water and that will keep the swelling down!

try lowering your chair so it is easier to relax your foot while not hurting your back!

Seems like a bad decision to go back to the office then. Sure they cannot sack you...

Am a civil servant of sorts too...

Those inflateable footstools look good but I think have a solution....my aunt gave me an old dressing table stool which am gonna bring in and use under my desk.

    Thanks for all the advice!

I know he cant sack me as such but as my contract needs to be renewed each year for another 2 years I cant really take the risk.

Hope it's nothing too bad, it sounds as if you're almost unfit for work. You shouldn't put yourself under so much pressure just because the CEO mightn't like it. You'd be better off at home instead of potentially making things worse by not resting your injury properly.

Beginning to think that myself drink....sitting here hardly able to concentrate coz of the pain and I may as well be eatin smarties as panadol.

I just hate the feeling of being incompetent and thats what I am at the moment. Drives me crazy. I think if i look at myself its my desire to please that has me back in work when not really able for it.

hehe. magicme go home, ag obair sa bhaile perhaps?

its the age of broadband and the inter-net, work places should be more flexible when its possible to work with your pc, an internet connection and a phone. there is nothing in an office job you cant do as well if not better from your own home.
