Someone on our forum saying its too late for any Italian team to take the place of milan if they are thrown out(cos Italy have chosen their teams to submit).

Any idea if this is true?

And leading on from this even if Red Star beat to go into the groups would we get the losers third round uefa spot?? Very confusing

Justo to clear up on the Milan situation - Cork won't beat Zvezda so there's no need to worry.

No seriously though, Milan are provisionally in the draw and a decision will be made by Uefa as to whether or not they can be Italy's fourth representative in the CL. If not, they will be replaced by the next Italian team in line - not sure who that is.

AC Milan next up for Cork in Europe

    From:ireland.com
    Friday, 28th July, 2006

The glittering prize of a Champions League showdown with Italian giants AC Milan awaits Cork City should they overcome Red Star Belgrade to reach the next round.

Trailing 1-0 after the first leg at Turner's Cross on Wednesday, Damien Richardson's side could hardly have asked for any extra incentive when they travel to Belgrade next week hoping to reach the third and final qualifying round.

There also remains the prospect that the Italians, who have lifted the famuos trophy on six occasions, will be eliminated from the competition before a ball is kicked.

Officials from Uefa are due to meet next Wednesday to rule on Milan's involvement following the match-fixing scandal in Italy. Milan were included in the the draw on a "provisional basis" ahead of a final decision.

Should Milan be eliminated, the winners in Belgrade next week would progress straight to the group stages of the Champions League

I'm confident that UEFA have a rule that the representatives for each country have to be notified to them by a certain (past) date - so no one could take their place if they are banned.

I am also confident that UEFA will always bend their own rules to suit the BIG teams - so I don't think there is any real chance of a 'bye' into the group stages
