    Quinn Replaced On Merger Group

    as per Press release....

Former Chairman and current Director and Life President of Charlton Athletic Football Club Richard Collins has been appointed to the IAG (Independent Assessment Group) which will handle the proposed merger between the eircom League and the Football Association of Ireland. Mr Collins will replace Niall Quinn who this morning announced his intention to manage Sunderland FC for the foreseeable future.

Chief Executive Officer of the FAI John Delaney said, "we would like to welcome Richard Collins to the group, he brings with him a wealth of experience and we look forward to working with him over the coming months. On behalf of the FAI I would also like to wish our former International player Niall Quinn the very best of luck with his new venture as Chairman-elect and Manager of Sunderland FC", he added.

Cork born Collins is a building surveyor by profession and has numerous Irish business interests. He qualified from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has held positions on several adjudication panels in relation to law and arbitration.

    ENDS.

Sounds like a better choice than the mighty (?) Quinn.

There's more than a touch of the People's Republic of Sunderland about Quinn's new move. Chairman AND Manager...!? Can't see him calling himself into his own office to give himself a stern talking to and/or a sacking at any point....

The King is dead ! Long live the Quinn.......!

It's the Pat Dolan School of Management (Roddy Collins is a big fan of this as well) and it never ends well. Quinn will wind up back as a TV analyst or competing on Celebrity Your a Star soon enough...

This man sounds like someone who has experience in football administration
    and should be objective.

Excellent news. I would like to think the grumblings of this board's members on the subject were influential in the decision.....but I'm not that naive!
