    UEFA Cup Draw

    On tomorrow:

Derry (and possibly Drogheda) will be in the UEFA Cup draw tomorrow - here's the list of opponents they could face:

    Newcastle United
    Club Brugge
    Hertha Berlin
    Brondby
    FC Twente
    Gretna
    Roeselare
    Molde
    Flora Tallin
    Odense
    Start

The obvious plum draw is Flora Tallinn who are "seeded" because they beat Lyn Oslo. Any 5 of the bottom 6 (apart from Odense) should be winnable ties.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"

Because Lyn would've been seeded and they will take their coefficient into the next round. I'm pretty sure anyway - if not Brann Bergen who knocked out Glentoran will be the extra seeds.

JC is that the full list?

I thought the draw was Europe wide this round, not regionalised?

    Cheers for any info.

That only happens if the draw for the second round is made before the completion of the first round, I think.

I think it's for all qualifying rounds, I could be wrong though.

That is the full list. Pretty good chance one of them could draw Newcastle.

If Talinn would have been seeded for beating Lyn, will Derry be seeded for beating IFK?

From the looks of it, Gretna might be the best draw - cheap to get to and definitely beatable

You only take the seed of your opponent when UEFA run the draw before the tie is complete.

For the purpose of the draw UEFA have to assume that the seeded side comes through and use the highest coefficient of the two teams.

An example is that the coefficient for Cork Red Star will be the Red Start one as the tie is not over and the draw is tomorrow.

There is no reason for Derry or Drogheda to take the coefficient of the teams they beat.

UEFA QR2 is split into regions

Sorry about that - replace Flora Tallinn with Brann then.

IFK would have been unseeded anyway in the 2nd round so it wouldn't make a difference to Derry!

Any of the Norwegians or Gretna or the Belgian side who got through the fair play competition would be decent draws.

Hertha & Newcastle would be the worst.

Gretna would be the best draw IMO.

It seems the new Inter Toto format is a bit of a hinderance to unseeded clubs. It has added some strong teams into the mix too early like Newcastle.

I'm not sure how easy Gretna are in reality. They've stepped up a division so you'd expect them to be stronger than last season. I haven't traced their summer signings. Anyone know who they've brought in? That said, they're probably still the most beatable and convenient team. Brann didn't exactly have it easy against Glens so they're probably not the greatest either. In general it doesn't look like a favourable group of teams to be drawn against.

Roeselare will be the best draw for us they are a small team and not very good from what i hear from the people in belgium. Gretna will be tricky, their chairman will pump money into this so they wont be a bad side in the draw, so belgium for me either Roeselare or Brugges i'd be happy or hertha :P we can take them on :P

    Gretna please!

Otherwise Lyn Oslo, who we have a bit of history against!

Anyway, as Adrian Eames said tonight, nobody will relish drawing Derry...

Derry and Drogheda would both have a great chance of progressing if they drew Start. There're easily the weakest of the three Norwegian teams and will be lucky to avoid relegation this year. If Derry can beat Göteborg home and away, they can beat Start.

It's difficult to know how good Gretna are so I'd be wary about drawing them.

Hertha Berlin would be a great draw just in terms of the about of money that tie would bring in.

If I could hand pick the opposition for Derry and Drogheda, I would pick Start and Molde.
