I know there were rumours of a dressing room disagreement between Gibson and Rooney mentioned in this thread but there was no sign of that at all today after the final whistle went in United's game against Blackburn and those players who didn't make today's match squad (including Gibson) rushed onto the field to celebrate winning the league. Gibson was the first person with whom Rooney celebrated as the two embraced and shared words like best buddies.

Another Premier League title for Darron Gibson, but is he really proving anyone wrong that staying at United and "winning things" is the right move when he can't even make the match day squad half the time? He's guaranteed a start against Blackpool next week, but that's only because the league is won. It's very unlikely he'll make the squad against Barcelona either and could end up with a Champion's League medal.

in fairness to Gibson, Serb, you cant argue with the fact that he has earned his League medal and contributed to the teams achievement. If he wins a CL medal, the same applies.

Though i think it is right to criticise his lack of urgency with regards to playing every week, i dont think those arguments should devalue his medal haul.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

FERGIE: Chris Smalling's got his first medal, so have Darron Gibson and Chicharito. It's a wonderful experience for them because they are the future
Doesnt sound like he'll be going anywhere lads!

Saw that. Seems that that apparent disagreement is a load of bull judging by today and various other incidents like that seem to prove as much.

Gibson has pulled out. Groin strain. Hmmm. All very strange as are Trap's words on the issue.
Trapattoni said: `Gibson has sent us an sms. It's his groin. Why is it always the groin in the world now? It is the new disease.

`It is impossible to find the groin. But it is the same in Italy. When you don't know what the injury is, it's the groin!

`You have to understand that I have 40 years in football and I have worked with doctors in Italy, Germany, Portugal and Ireland and all players are the same. They ask 'doctor, where is the injury' and he says 'Groin'.
`There is no problem. We received an sms 48 hours before the deadline so no, we won't be asking him to come in to be assessed.'

Gibson usually shows up and had a real chancing of starting so have to take his injury at face value.

What's the deal with sending a text message to say that you won't be reporting for international duty - especially leading up to an absolutely crucial qualifier? Genuine question and not looking to find faults unnecessarily.

I work as a teacher and would not dream of informing the school principal that I wasn't coming to work because of illness, by a text message. It just smacks of lack of concern and unprofessionalism. What's so difficult about dialling the manager's/liason officer's number and spending 2-3 mins having a proper conversation? Suppose though, considering that Kilbane found out about his non-inclusion in February via taxt message, it works both ways. Just seems a bit impersonal.

Gibson's text might have gone something like -

'Hi ga4, wnt make it ovr 4 FYRM match. Groin fkd, lol! :-P
    Gd luck sat. c u sept. hav a gr8 summer! Gibbo x :-) '

Erm. This is the 3rd year in a row that Darron Gibson has pulled out of the end of season squad with a groin strain.

Considering he turned up for the likes of the Wales match recently and has been out of the united squad for the last few weeks Im tending to give the lad the benefit of the doubt here.

Pity to hear this kinda stuff when on the other hand we have lads like Sledge busting a gut to get fit and hanging around even though its likely he wont play.

Players, some of 'em anyway, don't give a hoot about international football anymore. In the days of Charlton players turned up injured and lied about being fit when they were injured to meet up with the squad. Money has ruined the game.

And players dropped out for dubious reasons then. Even great players did it

And those players were not likely to tell the tale of the time they dropped out for dubious reasons.

Is Gibson's Twitter acct back open? Someone should send a tweet to all these guys saying something like:

Playing for your country is an honour, not a chore. Your injury may or may not be genuine but fans of the Irish team deserve transparency and honesty. Text messages are not a sufficient way of excusing yourself from duty. Rightly or wrongly your commitment is being questioned. It's up to you to put the record straight.

I agree it sounds pretty lame, but it seems to be the preferred method with the FAI at least for some years now.
You can't spell failure without FAI
