That's interesting cos he wasn't even named on the bench!

He came on for the last 20 minutes.

"Darron Gibson was one of those to impress, showing why Ferguson has handed him a new contract."

He never came up on the subs list on MUTV anyway (or else I'm going blind).

Only watched the first half so didn't see how he got on. Would have keep viewing if I'd known he might get a run out.

He's on for the last 25 mins in the valencia game tonight, playing very well, hit two raspers so far, crossbar and another was a great save.

Would be nice to have a goalscoring midfielder- every time I watch him play he looks dangerous. Two great shots tonight alright.

Not sure if he'll get a chance at United, but I think he'll be a good Premiership/international player wherever he ends up.

Massive season for him. He has done well in preseason so I think he will be given chances to stake his place during the season so its up to him to take it when he gets it
    Its really not that complicated!!!

I hope he and James McCarthy have great years and are in the fold if we go to SA.
It will take the sting away from Andy Reid being left out, Steven Reid being hurt, Finnan being washed up and SI being not here. The team needs some new blood with long term talent and maybe maybe maybe the Gibber is the man for that job.

Its funny, If Robbie Keane ever had a shot like Owen does around the first minute mark there, it would be made fun of for weeks....I mean I actually think I could have gotten it closer to the net. And I see he keeps doing that.
Also how is that 2nd goal not offsides?

gibsons being playing really well for united in pre season, and even last season whenever he got a chance in the team he didnt really look out of place. a couple of MOTM displays in the cups. a few goals too. i think he could be an important player for ireland in the upcoming qualifiers, he's much better than whelan imo

Had a reasonable game last night. Going forward he was excellent, and would have netted me 100 yoyo's if that crossbar shot had gone in. I wasn't too impressed with him defensively though. But still, looked good for most of the time he was one, far more impressive than whelan

Not exactly about Gibson but it certainly has an effect on him if true.

Brazilian midfielder Anderson has been told he can leave Manchester United after reacting badly to being omitted from the starting line-up for the Community Shield defeat by Chelsea.

I hear a rumour yesterday that Carrick may be offered back to Spurs in a deal to get Modric.

Aye, some (unnamed) "source" put that one around the other day - even the Belfast Telegraph picked up on it:
    http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sp...-14467017.html
However, someone with a suspiciously-Croatian-sounding name was quick to deny it:
    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...512567,00.html

Personally, I am not at all surprised that a story which might be expected to unsettle Tottenham's most influential playmaker should hit the papers when it has i.e. the very tail end of the transfer window, just over a fortnight before Spurs play (ahem) Man U in the League...

P.S. I can't see Ferguson wanting to get rid of Carrick at this stage, considering the Glazers will not be prepared to make up the loss which would be incurred on his purchase and re-sale.

They lost £11 million buying and selling Saha, plus they sold Ronaldo for €94 million, so I don't think that's a problem for such a transfer taking place.

There was no word of "Credit crunch" when they sold Saha. Moreoever, there was a reason why MU took such a "hit" on Saha - basically they feared he was crocked:
"Saha joined Everton for an undisclosed fee, signing a two-year 'pay-as-you-play' deal. Not match-fit at his time of signing, Saha offered to train without being paid whilst injured"
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Saha
(Also the reason why only the perennially cash-strapped Everton took a chance on him)

As for the €94m received for Ronaldo (almost certainly in installments, btw), anyone who truly believes Ferguson when he claims that the only reason he has signed so few players is because he is "happy" with his existing squad, esp so soon after having been embarrassed by Barcelona, must also believe in the Tooth Fairy!

Remember, as Brian Clough always pointed out, it is not Managers who sign players, it is Chairmen. And as Chairmen go, Malcolm Glazer is just about the least interested in football, and the most interested in his personal wealth, of any to be found in charge of a major club.

In the three years before he took over United won the Premier League and the FA Cup.

In his first three years as chairman they've won three Premier Leagues in a row, been European champions, World champions, won two League Cups and three Community Shields.

United have spent over £100 million on players over three years, the most spent over the same period in their whole history.
