I wouldn't judge him on one match where United were completely outplayed in every department. Don't think that system suited him much either and he got little or no support from Giggs or Carrick. I'm sure he was trying (seeing as it was the biggest match he's ever started) but sometimes players can look very flat when things are going wrong. Even Roy Keane had a few poor outings for United when they were completely outplayed by the likes of Redondo, Zidane, Effenburg, Davids at the peak of their powers.

Didn't notice anything off about his attitude to be honest. Have only seen the game once. In general I have always thought he's an all action, very committed player. He really p!sses me off with his brandishing of imaginery yellow cards though, he'd want to sort that out.

Gibson has a better chance of selection I think and with injuries could play a lot more games, but he'll have to impress. He's still behind Carrick, Hargreaves, Anderson, Fletcher, Scholes and Giggs though (probably in that order).

Maybe Im being a bit harsh on Anderson, but I do remember shouting at the TV alot at him in the final, but he is young so maybe the occasion got to him.

Just watched Fergie's interview after United's 3-2 win against a Malaysian XI

He was extremely positive regarding Gibson, who set up two of United's goals. He played a quality through ball for Michael Owen's winner as you can see in the link.

He played out on the right wing for the first half in a strong united team then was moved in to the centre for the second half. Fergie said he was very pleased with his performance and stressed the value of versatility.

He commented that Gibson takes up great positions but that one thing he needs to learn is how to capitalise on them. Fair assessment i'd say.

I think Fergie really considers him as a genuine 1st team squad member now. I'm pretty optimistic about his prospects this season. If he fails it won't be from lack of opportunities.

I agree with you, different world in my opinion and feel no connection to the place, but anyways thats a completely different topic.

Ya great to see the lad doing well, only saw the highlight but he figured in most of the good united did, great ball for the owen goal. Fingers crossed, obvious but this is a very big season for him.

Having lived in both Belfast & Derry I can tell you that whilst it may feel foreign to you it certainly doesn't for the locals who consider themselves as Irish as you and I, obviously thats only in certain area's but its a fact all the same

I'm a big a fan of Keane as the next man but Effenburg ran the show against United in their 2001 Quarter Final, especially in the 2nd Leg if memory serves. Davids was the best player on the pitch at OT in the First Leg of the 1999 Semi Final, particularly in the first half. I remember that quite vividly.

It's hardly a huge critism, I was just pointing out that sometimes even the great players come off second best.

Very interesting GR. A very good friend of mine who is a DUP activist went to University in Liverpool and came saying the "mainland" was like a foreign country. Maybe we have more and less in common with each other than we ever imagined, if that doesn't sound too Irish?

That really isn't true. Effenburg gave him a torrid time when they played against each other.

Gibson got some more praise today after United's 2-0 win in the Far East. I'm starting to feel slightly more optimistic about him!
