Dublin City were not a 5 year old club. I can't believe people are still buying Seery's hype, even after his club is gone.

They were Home Farm by another name, and kept that club's league place. They were waaaay older than 5 years.

If they were a new club, they should've been elected - which would have prevented the whole sorry fiasco happening in the first place.

Rocky is often given kudos for being a marketing genius for the whole Carrolls thing. Now Ringo tells us if Shels had picked up the phone it would have been them and he was the whole instigator of the deal?

If i remember correctly, i said they owed one training facility money, can't ever remember saying "half the training grounds" on the northside. They have been based in ALSAA for the last three years, with no problems.

At least dublin gave it a go and tried to be the best they could. Fair enough they failed in the end but as the saying goes "better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all"
Thats fine if your sole ambition is success at all costs in the EL. This is a community club with one of the most succesful underage set ups outside of Dublin, a new ladies team and facilities that Dublin City would have dreamed of having which are used by the entire footballing community in the COunty. And all this has been achieved without a large fan base but with a large buy in from the community to the wider project.

By the logic of what it is that we are seeking to achieve, not only has Monaghan tried, but we have also to a large degree suceeded.

And we have the happiest cows in the league.

I feel very sorry for Dublin City's fans and indeed for Ronan Seery. While this is obviously his own doing at the end of the day the man put his heart and soul into that club for the past years- and this must be devastating for him. He is a talented fundraiser (but not talented enough obviously) who'll I'll bet could teach us at Harps (and a lot of other clubs) a trick or two in that regard. Bit of a nutter- but on the occasions I spoke to him he was always sound, and took the DTTR stuff in excellent spirit.

Dublin City are no great loss to the league, but will be a massive loss to those that cared about the club.

The thing now is for other clubs to avoid following them out of existence- and a lot of people feel that several clubs will go under before the end of this season.

I feel sorry for DC fans. Regardless of how long you ahve supprted a club for them to close down so suddenly must be like having your heart ripped out.....saying that im not sorry theyre gone.

Frustrating to come back from Cyprus after great result to find us 4th in the table after losing 6 points and 5 goals.

Surely Seery knew at teh start of the season they could not last. What did he expect??Them to magically get good crowds this year

When I heard it first at around 5.45 yesterday it was you guys that I felt immediately sorry for. You know yourself that there's a bunch of fans that would've followed the club through thick and thin no matter what, but we're in a position now where we can't do a thing about it, which is difficult.

To you DE and to all the other players that I've had the privillage of supporting and calling "my" team over the last 4 years or so, thank you.

I don't know what else to say at the minute.

Gutted for the Dublin City support, would be devestated if it happened to Limerick and having come close a few times I can empathise a little at least. Not nice to see any club go to the wall.

Tough break for all their players too (with the not so honourable exception of Paul Shiels who's tasting karma pie this morning).

Some good people following that club and I'd hope they don't vanish completely from eircom League grounds after this.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

Actually, he's tasting Rovers pie - he just signed for us, apparently.

Care to fill us in on his details?

Midfielder with lungs like bin bags - can run box to box all day. Tough tackling, picks up more than his share of yellows. I think his best position is as holding midfielder, but he likes to get forward too. Great signing imo.

Must have picked you up wrong so. If that's the case, my remark may be retracted with my apologies. The last accounts, however, showed E172k owed to the bank, E70k to the Revenue, E444k to Seery and E163k in other creditors, which is still a fair chunk.

As for Dublin City, it's great news. They were always just a stick for the league's knockers to beat us with. I'd love to see someone buy dublincityfc.com and stick a load of quotes from Seery and his apologists on it.

The ones I feel most sorry for are Cobh, we deserved to be relegated but they were denied a shot at the premier by that **** take of a club.
I have to admit the thought did cross my mind but Dublin City beat us fairly and squarely last season, so no complaints there.
I do feel very sorry for the supporters of Dublin City, the support that they had, however small was as passionate as any other group of fans in this league.
On another note I do think that this affair asks serious questions of club licensing effectiveness.
As to who may replace them, who would want to, but proper infrastructure must be in place for any club who would take the plunge.

    Oxymoron.

It's like penalty points for driving - great idea but completely ineffective if not enforced and policed properly.

Sadly I would imagine that he will prove a good signing. He covers a lot of ground in the middle and is a good first division player. He's also a thoroughly dislikable little moaner with a horrible voice but some (not I naturally)would argue he'll feel at home with you boys then!

He threw the mother of all strops when he got sent off against us up there last season, tried to push over a number of baffled Limerick players on his way off and responded to a chant of 'cheerio, cheerio' with a torrent of abuse and a demand to know 'what's the score, what's the score?'. It was 1-0 to Dublin City at the time and despite the urgings of his own stewards he refused to go into the dressing room, prefering instead to scream and dance at the Limerick fans, who to be fair, probably didn't try and calm him down (I may have leaned over the wall and laughed in his face). Happily Limerick equalised and Mr.Shiels slunk off. One of my favourite moments of last season if I'm honest (it was quite a dull one for us and positive moments were sparse).

But does it have to be so high pitched? Or maybe that's just when he's excited. Ironically once upon a time myself and a few mates were playing a championship manager game (the 01/02 edition I think) and I was managing Monaghan and loved the boy. Just goes to show, you should never meet your heros!
