A splendid example of how not to run a football club. Utter stupidity from Seery. He has certainly reaped what he has sown. While I (obviously) have no problems with small clubs in our league, it's hard to feel any sympathy for a club which goes under after such blatantly reckless trading.

I have to agree with Billy Lord that it is an utter disgrace too that a club can get a Premier Division licence and cease to trade half way through the season. The FAI wil have us believe that a super-duper hand-picked league is the way forward - maybe they might be better advised to start implementing their own licencing rules? There is no reason to believe that the new league will do anything to stop a further recurrence (e.g. Shels). DC were giving two fingers up at all the clubs who run their affairs properly, and the FAI did nothing to stop it. I would love to see a creditor sue the FAI for failure to implement licencing! (I accept that' not going to happen...)

What's going to happen with the league points then? I assume DC's points will get stripped from the record? Three extra points for us then!

Any preferences for a new club to enter the league? Presumably a club from Mayo or Kerry would be at the fore given they've been in the League Cup and U-21 league in the last couple of seasons.

I would like to thank all those people who shared in the Dublin City dream and who, no doubt, will be disappointed, as I am, with this turn of events.

I would like to place on record my deep appreciation for Dermot Keely, Gar Cronin and the backroom staff of Dublin City FC for their totally professional approach at all times, despite the difficulties they encountered along the way.

To those investors and sponsors, the players and the loyal core of Vikings fans, I thank you for your unstinting efforts on behalf of the club.

I would also like to place on record my appreciation for the members of the eircom League and the FAI who have been fully briefed and are fully understanding of the situation.

I would hope that members of the media would allow me a period of time to tidy the affairs of Dublin City FC and no further press release will be issued for a period of one week.

yes we were. They owed rent for one game but I doubt Bohs will go chasing it when we still have the deposit from the start of the season

Fair dues. DC weren't ones for paying bills, as far as I know!

Nice one. Glad to see you've retained your sense of humour.
Although Roland Barthes would have had more wit than to embark on that caper.

Rovers shud replace them in the premier. After all they were the ones who sent rovers to the first division and rovers went down via playoff rather than automatically like harps.

League table is as follows, according to the FAI release on the Shels forum...

    PREMIER DIVISION LEAGUE TABLE

    P W D L F A PTS
    Drogheda United 14 9 3 2 14 4 30
    Derry City 13 9 2 2 19 8 29
    Shelbourne 13 8 4 1 26 11 28
    Cork City 14 8 4 2 13 6 28
    Sligo Rovers 15 7 4 4 20 18 25
    St. Patrick's Athletic 15 5 6 4 17 13 21
    U.C.D. 16 4 6 6 15 14 18
    Bohemians 16 5 2 9 15 18 17
    Longford Town 13 2 4 7 8 14 10
    Bray Wanderers 15 2 4 9 11 27 10
    Waterford United 16 0 3 13 11 36 3

Don't see how you can bring a team into the Premier at this stage though. Going to cause more hassle. Just have to be 11 teams in the Premier for the season.

I would propose Castlebar Celtic. Was very impressed with their set-up when we went there in May. They have a decent ground, a fan base, floodlights, and huge catchment potential in the local/wider Mayo area. More than what Home Farm ever had.

that's true. Home Farm never had much catchment potential in the wider Mayo area

    FAI Press Release:

The eircom League regrets to announce the resignation of Dublin City F.C as members of the eircom League with immediate effect.

Dublin City formally notified the league of it’s decision in writing today and the resignation was accepted at a specially convened Board of Control meeting this afternoon.

As a consequence of the resignation, the Board of Control have decided to expunge the results of all 17 eircom League matches played by Dublin City F.C to date this season.

Commenting on the resignation of Dublin City, eircom League Chairman Paddy McCaul stated, “It is with deep regret in which we announce the resignation of Dublin City from the eircom League. I would like to acknowledge the remarkable hard work and enormous contribution to Irish Football made by Dublin City Chairman, Ronan Seery and Club Secretary, Breda Mahon”

Chief Executive of the FAI, John Delaney expressed his disappointment at the announcement of Dublin City F.C. “The loss of any eircom League club from football is very unwelcome. In the case of Dublin City, the disappointment fro the many loyal and dedicated football people associated with the club must be difficult in the extreme.”

Delaney added, “The issues affecting all eircom League clubs in terms of viability and securing a sustainable future within the league are similar and are very much behind the rationale for the planned merger with the FAI”

The approved fixture list with the exception of Dublin City remains as published.

Suits most teams who dropped points to Dublin City could have a controversial bearing on the outcome of the league , surprised they did not let the first round of matches stand.
