Knowing 'Thomas' quite well it is possible to misinterpret his viewpoints as that of a 'dope' however he is far from a newbie part time supporter, merely a misunderstood one!!Originally Posted by nshoop

Well said stu.
Shels will not be kicked out on the grounds of too few seats as theres far too many loopholes, sadly.
Its a disgrace that we can have grounds in the Premier Division like Santry but its gonna happen and when it does it probably wont be any better then whats there at the moment.
Plenty of plans and I think it will be the best move of all the current options but moving in to Santry in its current state looks like something we have to do. Eventually it will be a decent sized ground and its in a good area. Whoever thinks its out in the middle of nowhere needs their head examined.
Sadly we have to start from scratch again but in a couple of seasons time it will be better than Tolka is at present.

I thought the new super duper league is acknowledgement that licencing has failed and a line is being drawn where new standards will be set and will have to be adhered to?
How long a lease is required

Judging by the picture a few posts above it looks like one of the biggest sh!tholes I have ever seen. If Shels had to start from scratch to improve it, I presume it would be better to build a new ground on a new site that wouldn't have the hindrance of an athletics track. But I presume the reason they have not decided to go down that route is for financial reasons?Originally Posted by higgins
If they could sell tolka they could build a new stadium but i think it belongs to the council and some cycling organisation.Originally Posted by DmanDmythDledge

Shels don't own Tolka, as far as I know. They own a lease on Tolka, which would be worth a lot less. Certainly not enough to build a new stadium. They can get Government grnts like any other club, of course.

Drogheda are currently in the Premier Division with about 370 seats.
One question to Shels fans. Honestly tell me, and I am not having a go here, Santry is better than Tolka Park? Please explain
I don't think it is, not many Shels fans like the idea of Santry unless it means we last for a few more decades, many are proposing a move to the RDS which is being re-developed!-
Who Cares?!
How would you work the RDS for a soccer team?
thats not going to happen
As for building from scratch on a fresh site the problem is we cant. Land prices are too high unless you move to the middle of nowhere. The Donabate deal was ok as the area would have been built up eventually but the land price went way up and the sale of Tolka would not cover that.
Sharing was the only option in the end and Ollie went for the Dalymount idea with the FAI. I was always against this as I am with going to Tallaght or Richmond. I'd gladly share in a new stadium with plenty of room but not one thats existing already and will probably get a new stand or so.
Why move from Tolka??
Well after the floods some years back it kickstarted the hunt for a new ground. The council have plans for the area and its in their interest to get shels out so they would look favourably on us even if we only hold the lease.
They dont want us kicked out which is why the buyers cant really do much if the council dont back them so I think the best idea now is a move to Santy. Tolka has no room for expansion and would cost a packet to re develope.
We can go to Santry and receive grant money with some cash of our own from the sale of Tolka (dont mind the Bohs figures) and build something worthwhile. Its in a decent area location wise and we remain close enough to Tolka for the existing fanbase.
I think its the best option and hope it happens fairly soon.

Unlike Shels fans, Bohs members were privy to the exact deal/fiasco that was put on the table realyer, hence its overwhelming rejection by our membership.
It's not. They just don't have a choice.Originally Posted by CollegeTillIDie
Just wondering if Shelbourne will be repaying the grant they received to build the new stand in Tolka, from the proposed pay-off from the developers. What happens to Shels if they keep paying players more than they can afford. Their lease in Santry will be short term. If they find themselves in financial difficulties their is no going back.
