I'm being pedantic as it's not even an issue really but a manager admitting an interest in a player isn't official? You could look at both ways really....

dunno about that, didn't Jenas leave because he thought it was a "goldfish bowl." Mind you, Damo's a quiet lad and will spent most of his time either sleeping or playing the playstation

I think Jenas is a different character, I think with Jenas he felft it was too small and he could not get up to extra carricular activities and it not get back to the training ground etc. Some players like big cities and some prefer smaller ones. I think Duff and Jenas are chalk and cheese.

Look on the bright side: now there will be less chance for him to get injured or overtired from playing all those european games.
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.

i can't believe they got him for only £5mill !!!! surely someone else would have snapped him up for that. Mind you knowing shepherd, as with what owen said during svengate, they probably offered him a kings ransom to play for them. Just hope he stays injury free, unlike owen !!

Well with just a year left on his contract wouldn't Duff have a lot of
bargaining power? How much will he be paid at Newcastle?
    Anyone know?

could turn out to be a great move , i guess he feels his medal collection is sufficient though !! if he helps them win any piece of silverware at all he will become a club legend
Was he crazy!! Yeah , in a very special way , an Irishman.

It seems Scot parker, Shay Given and Steven Carr was a factor in his decision. Not as disapointed today after seeing the reception he got last night. I hope it works out for him.

Like most of us I just like to have an Irish contingent at the big clubs playing CL football...

Don't think they were a factor as such, he just replied to a question about settling in, that he got on with them. I'm sure if he signed for Spurs he'd have sadi he was mates with Keane and Reid.

Reading all the quotes its pretty clear why he chose Newcastle.

'Yet if Liverpool's enthusiasm for deploying him on the right was a disincentive to moving to Anfield, Duff simply refused to countenance joining Chelsea's London rivals. "As a Chelsea player I couldn't join Spurs," he reflected, apparently seriously.'

If it was only money then Duff could have stayed where he was taken up another 2 year option for £4m or £5m and sat on the bench grinning for most of the time.

He played 75% of Chelsea's games last season apparently. Now he's in a comfort zone knowing he'll play every week. might work, moight be bad for the lad...
