Moran double helps blast Cats

A brace from Barry Moran and one apiece from Billy Clery and Alan Murphy
saw Galway United trounce Kilkenny City 4-1 at Buckley Park on Saturday
night.

United took the lead as early as the 90th second. Moran showed great
control to chest down Ronan Frawley’s cross and bury the opener, much to
the frustration of the home support.

Kilkenny equalised after 37 minutes when Brian King’s free kick was deflected
into the net, but United should have went ahead moments later when they
were awarded a penalty.

However, Murphy blazed over and the sides went in at half time on level
terms. Then a seven-minute spell in the second period finished the match as
a contest.

Goals by Clery, Murphy and Moran’s second left the match beyond City and it
was United that went home the happier side.

that was a huge surprise to see that score last night,i know kilk are bad but you couldnt see us scoring 4 goals in a game even a month ago,im looking forward to reading a match report on offical site,it also seems nobody wants to win this division with teams dropping pts etc,limerick have lost 4 of last 8(i think),cobhs winning run is over,shams 1 pt from last 2 games(they were against top sides though),if we beat mons next week it will set up a huge game vrs limerick on friday night of race week,could be a (relatively)massive crowd(i know im getting ahead of myself though).
i was so dissappointed 2 weeks ago with the players etc but its amazing what 2 wins ina row can do for the spirit.

in Kilkenny easily less than 100 on a beautiful evening on a fantastic Pitch with tremendous facilities.You would really feel sorry for someone like Jim Rhatigan who has sweated blood to keep KCFC going.


As regards the game we started very well and Ronan Frawley did great work to set up Barry for the 1st goal but we let City back into the game and they were well on top and deserved their equaliser which deflected off Barry giving Goughy no chance. Murphs Penalty miss was skied a mile over the Bar after Derek was taken down seconds before half time.

Tony made two astute substituitions bringing Franny & Ciaran on for Juan & Mixie who had lost out in the midfield after starting well. Foley had easily his best game since coming here and Galway bossed the second half from start to finish. Philip Reillys excellent corner was bundled over the line by the inrushing Billy Clery and less than six minutes later we were 4-1 up the 3rd Goal came when David Cooke cracked a peach from 25yards which deflected off slabs rear and past the despairing Shanahan in the Kilkenny Goal and then Murphs set up Barry for a cracker beating the keeper from 10yds out.

Dowdy then came on for Barry who had shipped a few knocks and he came close twice to increasing our lead.

Excellent support from the small band of United supporters who were wined and dined in fine style in the Mill house again!!!!!!!!!
