Fair play .. good move there, hardly one that could be passed up anyway. And would i be right in saying its something that would ensure Pats stay at Richmond that bit longer if anything were to happen.
A group of investors friendly to St Patrick's Athletic have purchased McDowell's Public House on Emmet Road and will take control of what has been the de-facto club house of Pat's for many years this coming Friday.
Club chairman Andrew O'Callaghan speaking exclusively to the Gazette said "We have a population of 250,000 on our doorstep and need proper facilities to attract and hold onto new supporters. The board are currently seeking investment and as part of our long term development, McDowell's Public House on Emmet Road has been purchased for the club patronage from the Ward family. From Friday, 14 July, 2006, all profits from McDowell's will go towards the club. It is a very special occasion for the club and we are really excited about the opportunity this creates for Dublin's greatest football club."
Andrew paid tribute to Mrs Ward, her family and staff for their generosity over the years saying "The Ward family have been very generous to St Pat's over the years and the consortium were delighted that we were the preferred bidder.
"I would urge all Saints fans to use McDowell's not only on match days but for birthdays, anniversaries or any gathering of friends - the costs of operating an eircom League club are colossal and only one third of income derives from gate receipts. We need to broaden our revenue base and McDowell's is an ideal venture to aid the club while still being part of
the community".
Ownership will transfer on Friday, July 14, the day on which St Patrick's face Dublin rivals Bohemians, kicking off at 7:45pm.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
Does this mean there'll be an entrance from McDowells into the stand?![]()
H/T pints?
Does this mean Pat's own all the property behind the stand? For some reason I really can't remember what else is there bar the house and ticket office!
Only for Pats fans, away fans, in particular Bohs, restricted to Camac side, just like the arrangements in place at Dalymoan.Originally Posted by BohsFans

Well done.

All of this has happened before. All of it will happen again.
Excellent step forward for the club - fair play to these 'investors' for doing this for the club
Good stuff!
Great move. Long may Pats stay at Richmond a great LOI ground.

But who are these 'friendly' 'investors'?
Current club chairman, current club director (has been for quite a while), current chairman's business associate, possible future chairman.Originally Posted by Billy Lord

Is this to be Pats' presence in Inchicore after they move to Tallaght?
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
Not from what we hear (we've been lied to before) but the GAA ********ology about tallaght is probably grating on the FAI (coupled with their nee for Croke Park) so they're unlikely to force anybody anywhere.
We'll know within a month what'll happen but we're more than likely to be in Richmond for the foreseeable future. if the deal they're working on at the moment comes off (see new chairman bit above) we'll be either there for good in a shiny new Richmond, or ****ed royally.
Its more positive than 3 months ago when it just looked like we were ****ed royally.
At the very very least its more income into the club
