Gleesons sports shop or by ticket line 061 702070. Bout 2 thousand gone alreadyOriginally Posted by limerickblue
its was apparent a few weeks back that leeds united were coming to play limerick f.c at hogan park due to connections kevin blackwell has in askeaton, but actually the first team wont be there and either will kevin Blackwell, its the reserve team they are playing.there wont be any big names in this squad whatsoever they are all in norway on tour.It is advertised as a mixture of first team and second string players but is blatently not. If you want to see leeds full reserve team tuesday night, then they will be playing at rathbane. but for big names forget it.
I think everyone knew this already but to be fair to the club they never advertised this as a mixture of first team players and second team players. The media got cought up in this and pushed it (knowingly or not) as the full leeds team. If you go onto limerickfc.ie you have the full promo there. All the leeds united supporters clubs in ireland are well aware of the team that is comming and are fully behind it. There will be a few thousand there on Tuesday night so come early. Also Limerick pin badges and scarves are selling out fast expect all to be gone at leeds gameOriginally Posted by progress

Noel Mooneys name is signed at the bottom of the promo.
I for one am devestated that I missed the chance to see such household names as Sean Derry and Rob Hulse last night...![]()
Last night was a good event and everybody there seemed to enjoy it. I don't believe that many more would have turned up for Neil Sullivan. As it was I was a little staggered by the number of Leeds shirts in the ground.
The ball is round and has many surprises.
In fairness Hulse was their top scorer last season and a fairly regular first team player. Derry plays quite often too. I'm surprised if Hulse was playing - would not be considered a reserve I think. Or have I got the wrong end of it?Originally Posted by sadloserkid

1-1....Carthy cracker
it looked like there was about 4000 there last night!!dose anyone know what the offical attendance was?
Yeah I was just making the point that the 'stars' of Leeds current squad are hardly household names anyway and I couldn't imagine that they would have gotten many more through the gate had it been the first team. Last night was of interest to fans of Limerick and Leeds United for the most part and it's a little scary to see just how much support a fairly nothing English club like Leeds can muster.Originally Posted by LFC in Exile

Well I wouldn't call them a "nothing" club. Leeds are a pretty big club. They'd probably be behind Man U, Liverpool, Celtic, Arsenal in the popularity stakes but no shame in that. They've an impressive history and would be known internationally, more so than the likes of Chelsea anyway, until Abramovich came along that is. A nothing club to me would be Charlton Athletic, Aston Villa, Everton, Middlesboro.....always and forever in mediocrity.
What the Leeds website had to say........

I'll concede Charlton and Boro but the only reason Leeds have a higher profile than Everton or Villa here is the Johnny Giles residue and about three years of prowess not so long ago. Blackburn could boast something similar though unlike Leeds they actually won something too! Liverpool, Man Yoo, Arsenal, Everton and more arguably Villa, Spurs and Newcastle and possibly even Notts Forest can all claim a prouder history than Leeds surely?
Don't misunderstand me, it was a good game for Limerick to arrange and I'm glad I was there and that it passed off well but nobody will convince me that Leeds United are particularly relevant in the international arena. Somewhere around the level of Borussia Monchengladbach.

As I said was only joking about Everton, but regarding Villa, sorry SLK you won't convince me! All Villa do is languish, and their European Cup win is probably the least celebrated one of all the British clubs. I seriously doubt they have more international appeal than Leeds. Even their players are, and have always been, so average. The Revie years (that team seems to be forever remembered), The league championship in early 90's and the recent early Ridsdale years put Leeds ahead IMO. Plus they had star players in most of those teams.
Back to topic, yeah great night for Limerick, great crowd, first time in years to see a crowd like that at Rathbane. Last time I remember a crowd like that was Derry City at home during the Billy Hamilton years, when they had to erect scaffolding for fans and the RTE cameras. Would be great to see Big Sam's Bolton Wanderers next, but a team bringing over their actual premiership squad would probably mean a once off switch to Thomond Park for various reasons. Here's hoping.....

What about Versus Dundalk in the cup and Versus UCD in the playoffs when Dave Connell,on a shoestring budget, abley assisted by Fran Mullaly RIP,was manager before the priest got a rush of blood to the head and f***ed them out????
I was at the UCD play-off game when Ray O'Halloran scored and we lost 3-1. Remember Jason Sherlock getting some fair abuse that day, all racist of course.... The crowd that day was pretty decent, but no not as big as the Derry City game under Hamilton. As far as I can remember anyway....Originally Posted by shelbourne1904
