There are people who come from towns or counties were there are no EL clubs.
Ahh .... he is allowed have an opinion aswell you know
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

    Quote from Dodge.....

I'll say it again, the ONLY people in Ireland who can legitimately call themselves supporters are those who support their local sides. I'm not commenting on people's rights to watch international football.

As A Face said, you have a right to express your opinion, and I also have a right to express my opinion, which is that I find your comment disgusting.

By your ridiculous rationale, somebody who grows up and lives in an area
where there is no local or eL team to support is disqualified from supporting the national side.

So, concerning a person with no local side to support, and a person whose only outlet for their support is the national side, your opinion is that their passion for their national side is necessarily less than a person who follows a local or eL side. Is that right?

Could you explain why it is necessary to support a club side in order to qualify as a supporter of the national side?

Ah FFS read all my posts here and point out where I said ANYTHING about people not being entitled to watch the national team.

Ah FFS nothing. You clearly distinguished between those who watch and those who "support". I never said you feel people are not entitled to watch the team. What you did say is that anybody who doesnt support a local side is cannot be classed as a "supporter".

The reason I asked you to answer the question is that reading all your posts here doesnt give me the answer.

The host nation had the biggest support.

England were a clear number 2. Huge passionate support and vey little trouble.

I thought Mexico were 3rd with incredible support. The Dutch travelled in big numbers on day trips though.

The French support was terrible. Given they share a border with Germany and had agames a couple of hours drive from Strasbourg and only a few more from Paris their fans stayed at home even for the semi final.

You still have not explained why a guy who grows up in Clare or Kerry and does not have an EL team to support and therefore supports Ireland home and away cannot be called a football supporter.

One of the reasons I was not too bothered that they lost the final.

Hurray, finally a post responding to the original post. Agree totally about France.

But other countries seemed to have big support out there too: Sweden & Australia which I saw first hand. Both were excellent.

Poland & Croatia had good support too. The noise from the Croatian support towards the end of their game with Brazil was fantastic.

And I see the eircom league Talibann are out in force again.

Wasn't mexico's unbelievable? In terms of size, colour and noise. And they had a team that deserved it too.

Did they all travel over or is there a huge mexican population in Germany?

Thats what I was trying to figure out. can't see how there would be such a huge mexican population in europe. Would imagine that all the wealthy people in Mexico could afford to go though

Yes indeed but would you deem to class them as supporters?

London has a decent size Mexican population, was flying out of Luton before on of thier games and there was at least 150 of them in the Easyjey queue to GErmany. All in their colours,

Yeah..I cannot understand the French in particular taking such small numbers to a major final. I was also disappointed with the Portuguese, the Spanish and even the Italians considering their populations. I am sure that if the Ukraine was not as poor as it, they would have had big numbers. Looking forward to Euro qualifiers, should be some craic, hopefully making up some how for missing out on the last month.
