We could also call it "The Division Bell" - I'd have "High Hopes" that that name could see the league "coming back to life".

Ok I got to stop now.

We would need the "Money" to be there on the table first.

Hopefully that will encourage players at clubs over here to "Run Like Hell" to their foreign based friends and say "Wish You Were Here"

But then again - that would be "Another Brick in the Wall" for a strong League
    Kom Igen, FCK...

Having the name solely in Irish will be a good idea when the majority of people likely ever to attend a national league game are fluent Irish speakers.
As things stand, this country has invested much of its national identity and most of its cultural capital in developing the monster that is GAA football, probably at the expense of the language.
Most of the population speak English. We need an English language name that doesn't ape English football. If we want an Irish alternative version, we can have that too, but giving it an exclusively Irish name, because of good intentions re the language, would be suicide.

Sean Connor on eircom League Sleepy last night said that he wanted Rovers to finish in the top-5 of the Premiership this season.

Shameless attempt to get in Delaney's good books if you ask me.

Agreed - I don't know how many are like me, but I've never referred to 'the eircom League,' always call it 'The League of Ireland.'

I think League of Ireland is a term synonymous with mediocrety and crap football in the minds of the non-eL going public. To depart from this name mightn't be such a bad thing.

Why does everything in Ireland. from banks to newspapers to football leagues, have to have 'Ireland' or 'Irish' in it? All a bit post-colonial if you ask me. We should leave it out, and trust in people's intelligence to know what country they are in. In that respect, though only in that respect, calling it 'The Premiership' has some merit.
I'd be happy with The (insert inevitable/necessary evil of sponsor name) Football League.

I disagree completely. Nothing wrong with an Irish name. However, it has to be catchy. Which none of the Irish names mentioned so far are.

Actually, he always calls the league by that title. Bugs the f*ck out of me.

    The Eire 1 League
    The Eire 2 League
    The Eire A Championship
    The Eire U20 League

These look seem like decent names to call the proposed new divisions if the FAI are going to implement a name-change. It also gives the impression that all the divisions ae linked. i.e. Not like the Premiership, Championship and Coca Cola Leagues in England. Once somebody talks about Eire League football then it will be immediately clear which football league and which country is being referred to. This wouldnt be the case if the top division was renamed the Premiership.

I think it is important also not to call the top division an elite name. OK it is the highest division but it should have the same title as the lower divisions with just a numerical value or something along those lines to indicate that it is the top division. If the FAI are going to market the new league then perhaps it would be better to name the new divisions in a manner like the one above. Then any advert for 'The Eire League' for example would advertise the whole league whereas something like the 'Eircom Premiership' would advertise just one division.
    Business as usual

I never saw anything wrong with the "National League" myself. It should never have been abandoned. What's wrong with "Eircom National League, Premier Division" etc. ?
